aaaaaaaaaaahhh... well done. this was such a funny song
2 days ago and my head is still spinning. liam and mike strumming with eddie on the drums, labcoats, brooms, bear stories, little girls, and the most wonderful sounding hall. even ed commented on that. we all sounded wonderful and with any luck, we will be able to get a cd/dvd of this night! i can only imagine what is in store for the next 3 nights. good luck!!!
all along the watchtower. yellow ledbetter and the most incredible hymn ARC- i will never, ever forget that sound for the rest of my life. bravo and a million thanks for one of my most memorable evenings ever.

I can't believe it's already been two days. Damn! This is bittersweet. Every time they tour, I go through these mixed up feelings. You are so high while you're traveling from one date to another. But once it's all over, you're like fish outta water.
Totally agree. I flew back to NY and replayin the show in my head and still cant believe I was lucky enough to witness what we did. And now here I am, back in NY with horrible jetlag and have to return to work tomorrow and it was just two days ago I was on cloud 9, watching greatness from the 8th row. Def bittersweet. Not to mention, no zippo lighter! ugh lol
my recollection is crystal clear of Ed finishing Arc and smiling, starting over on the right hand side of the stage and shaking hands, greating everyone, going all along the stage to the left as the curtain falls (did the curtain fall? SC came in from sides, seem to recall Zellerbachs descended from above, one night, other night you just watched him drop the sky bknd over the tent) ... and Arc goes on, Ed getting a smoke...
but no the curtain didn't fall, and Ed shrugged at the scene change, got a smoke and was walking around the stage, moving toward one guitar or another, looking around...
not wanting to leave the stage...
and that's when he went into the Sean introduction, and wasn't all that just cool enough?
This is my first time posting to the forum, but after that INCREDIBLE show on Tuesday night I had to join in. I've seen the band 3 times previously (should have been 4, I still haven't gotten over the cancelled San Diego show in '94), but I could tell going in that this night was going to be something special.
The stripped down simplicity of the stage just enhanced the beauty of Ed's vocals and guitar work, even though he did go off the rails a bit during Around the Bend. I loved his comments about scaring off the young Republicans (there are Republicans in Berkeley?), right before 'I'm Open' something about "just below woman...God", the comment about Creationists looking less evolved, and the stories about his daugther (Reason I'll be) and the bear were so cute. I loved it! When the crowd sang the "NO MORE" chorus with such passion, you could see that Ed got a little choked up about it...that was really awesome! The energy of the audience was just incredible. Damn, what an intense show, I want more!!!
The cameos by Sean and Mike were just the icing on the cake, how freaking cool was that?! I thought we were going to blow the roof off the theater when Mcready came out, and he absolutlely rocked Yellow Ledbetter and Watchtower. When they broke into Ledbetter, I thought "oh no, the show's over!" so I was stoked when they kept playing.
We really were hoping to catch Ed and company after the show, but a long drive home and an early morning meeting on Weds. had us finally heading out around 1 am. Does anyone know what time they finally came outside? I'm gonna kick myself if it was right after we left.
Cheers to Eddie, Mike, Sean, Liam, Eliza, and Jerry! <raising a glass of homebrew> I'll be basking in the afterglow of this performance for a while.

during this performance, i swore to myself, as the night went on that i would take in the sounds, the sights, the feelings and that i would remember everything... BUT,as i seemed to melt into the performance( only way i can describe it) , i sort of have amnesia as to some of the individual events. i am so very happy and grateful that some you posting on here have incredible memories. how are you people able to remember ed's and sean's quotes???? do tell... and for those who say fanviews only, i say, these comments should count and pooh on you who doth protest!
thanks to all who posted. somehow, i feel that people who attended this show are now all friends who share a special secret....
again , i wish good luck to those still waiting for their so. cali. shows, but it would be awfully hard to top this night!

After seeing 5 of these shows (Santa Cruz, Berkeley 1&2, and LA 1&2) I have had some time to think and reflect...and...I am convinced that we got to see the best show of the tour on the second night of Berkeley. What an amazing experience that show was. Would have still been awesome if it had ended after Hard Sun, but no we got to see McCready wheeled out on stage for not 1 but 2 more songs! Here is my rankings of the shows that I went to:
Berkeley 2
LA 2
Santa Cruz
Berkeley 1
LA 1
And if I rank them all (it is hard as I didn't go to all but I used the setlist/fanviews to come up my complete tour rankings):
Berkeley 2
LA 2
San Diego 2
San Diego 1
Berkeley 1 (maybe should be higher...sattelite was f'ing amazing)
Santa Barbara
LA1
Vancouver 2
Vancouver 1
Sorry Canada! Ed saved the best shit for his country! Feel free to disagree...but for me this is where I am at right now. Still trying to take it all in!

When I think back to the fact that I didn't have tickets to Berkeley 2 until two days before the show, and I was thinking of not going at all ...
Man, what a colossal mistake that would have been.

Funny, I was thinking of not going to Berkley 2. I was just too damn tired. To think of the fact of getting off work early, going up there and getting home at around 1:30am and waking up early for work. UGH. Somehow I went, THANK GOD.
From the 5 shows I saw, Berkley 2 was the best. The pre-meet ups at that college bar were fun. I had a blast night 1 hanging out with peeps. It was so laid back and relaxed much better than L.A. But yeah, Berkley 2 was my fav show.. drum circles and all! LOL
Evolution, did I meet you at Berk 1?
The only thing Berkeley 2 was missing was Patriot. Those damn San Diegans got my song :-P
Not sure. I met lots of folks. If you met or know Evil Closet Monkey, then yes I met you! I was drinking that night my mind is not all clear lol.
Yes, I am a Patriot would have been nice but we shouldn't wish for too much. We got Sean Penn and Mike McCready and I think we got the longest Ed Vedder show!
Yeap, I got to hang out with ECM during LA a lot! Do you know pearlgirl2000(is that her nick?) I shared a room at Ramada with her. I was one of the people who stayed at that Ramada which was really close to the venue.
Oh hey, I stayed at the Ramada too for Sunday night. lol I traveled with EMC and his wife to all these shows. So, I guess we did cross paths!! I'm not sure who is pearlgirl2000. I'm really bad with people and their screen names. I don't really post much on here except for like times when the band or it's members are in some tour.

I live in Roseville and I thought the same thing you did about driving back after going the day before for Berkeley 1. Only I decided not to go to Berkeley 2. I'm ok with it, except for missing out on Mike.
What were you wearing on Sunday? Are you the guy who donated some boots to the fundraiser? I know you're not Demetrios but I thought there was another guy who donated bunch of boots to the fundraiser the second night and I thought that guy lived in Sacramento too.

reminds me of the gorge, ed crooning for tom petty ......."hello tom, come down tom" - hello ed, come down ed
Just give 'em a lil Van or Berk1, Ed!
But honestly, I hope he really rips up for them, and why wouldn't he, another beautiful place for a show!
