Masters of War played early in the set ... after the song, he called the previous night's audience lame ... said it was like pulling teeth to get people to sing along .... then he blamed himself, saying something along the lines of that if he couldn't get people on a campus to sing along on a protest song, he's not doing his job ... thus, he felt Masters of War would get us in the mood.
(interesting that night 1 had 10c seats, and night two did not, yet night 2's audience was into it a lot more with the vocals)
Ed looked genuinely appreciative of night 2's loud chorus on No More ... visably moved even ...
He mentioned recording ... let me say that again, he openly mentioned they were recording. WE BETTER SEE THIS!
Ed actually told a story about his daugther ... how she likes "No Ceiling" ... I'll let someone else fill in the detials, it was cute.
Before the Santa Cruz song, he stated one of the reasons he was up until 4 am last night is that he was trying to find a word to rhyme with Berkeley .... then (in jest, kind of) he said with the poor performance of the night 1 crowd, Berkeley didn't deserve its own song. Man, he was not happy with the night one crew.
At one point when Mike and Liam were closing out the show with Ed, Ed took over on drums and Liam took the guitar, and Liam rocked out.
Mike's intro .... Ed stated he was very thankful to the band, and that he's brought something along this tour with him from each of the guys .... the rug from Jeff, box of drum sticks from Matt, a guitar from Stone .... then, he said he didn't have anything from Mike (I knew it was coming once he said that) .... he said he put a call into to Mike to fedex him something .... Mike was then escorted on the stage on a hand cart ... the place went berzerk (makes sense for bezerkeley).
Ed poured a few glasses of wine at the end of one of the first encore (I think it was then) ... handed one glass to someone in the front row, they clinked and drank ...
As mentioned, 1 per customer for posters and zippos .... zippos, out of stock in 5 minutes, posters (the blue green ones) were available as late as 5 minutes before Ed's set (!)
ok ... enough of my babbling ...

what a great night.
ed was definitely a bit on the hammered side - he came out saying he was kind of "depressed - since its not professional to say hungover". Said he was up late talking to Echol's wife the night before, getting angry at the injustice of the system, most likely DRINKING his anger away. He seemed waaay more comfortable tonite, more in his element, maybe due some vino? He went into this long tirade on torture museums in Amsterdam. Why did he go on this rant .....I have no idea. he described one form of torture where people had to sit on a big wooden thing that had a sharp edge and the torturors would put heavy weights on their legs and as the weights dropped the person would slowly be sliced in two. It was pretty gruesome - this was before his pain pills kicked in later in the set
Right before I'm Open he made comments about how some people might think the song has to do with wanting a relationship, maybe a relationship with a woman or maybe with something "just below a woman - god". It was super sweet. He talked about his little girl as well, how she loves to listen to his music and dance around.
He seems to be on great terms with Sean Penn, invited him out on stage and shared some wine and a smoke with him, then sang him a song he wrote for him the day after he met him. It was great - Sean said something like Ed has the soul he aspires to have. Next came McCready and they ROCKED watchtower.
wow
:O
Quote of the night - "Why is it the people who don't believe in evolution always look the least evolved?" (he gave credit to Bill Hicks)
My only beef was with idiotic comments and screaming from the crowd, which he was really patient with, and all the camera flashes during the first song. WTF???
Crowd was x10 better than last night, but I still feel like a lot of people were there to be there instead of enjoying the music.
Eddie played drums! That was awesome.
I was next to this dumb heckler who kept yelling vitalogy, he eventually got ed's attention and ed put him in his place. I think it was the first time ever at a pearl jam show a lyric from foxymop was ever performed. The same heckler also agreed when ed jokingly mentioned he doesn't mix politics and fame, then the Obama poster, it was classic literally everyone around him just started laughing at him.
I would also like to say that Liam Finn is fucking fantastic and should not be missed.

Basically, when Forever Young finished playing, someone in the crowd yelled "What about Hilary?"... at first, Eddie said "Hilary? Didn't I just play Trouble a little while ago?".
Then he went on a faux-rant, saying that he's learnt that artists and musicians like him shouldn't go out supporting anyone in particular, it's not our place (and just as he's saying this, a HUGE Obama '08 banner was carried on stage behind him, and at least half the audience stood up and went wild).
He also mockingly said that we should listen to business people and people in the media, because they really know everything, and not someone like him, who just happens to meet and talk to thousands of people in different countries and cultures.
I'm paraphrasing badly, but that was essentially what happened with the Obama endorsement. Really cool, but surprising that only half the crowd stood up.

It was to do with SCIENCE, mainly just that he was experimenting with this whole solo process

While there are people in this world who we call "tool" ... that guy is the entire set of Sears Craftsman Best Metric tools .... what an absolute fucktard.
anyway, continue on with the deserving praise for this show ...

Makes sense. I thought he was just randomly riffing about "science" throughout the night; didn't occur to me that it was something they had set-up. Thanks.
This was a freakin awesome show, esp. the 2nd half.

The torture story was started because he was describing how bad the drum circle outside was. I was a little surprised by that because, even though they were bad, I figured an artist like Eddie would appreciate any type of expression and music.
The programs they were handing out were one per person.
Liam Finn was pretty cool. I had low expectations going in and he and the woman with him did a good job

Highlights of this show were many...MOW was very powerful and a nice surprise to hear. Trouble, Soon Forget, Picture In A Frame were also excellent tunes on this night. But the encores essentially blew the rest of the show away with Yellow Ledbetter and All Along The Watchtower. Those two songs definitely left me wanting more "full band" love...but I'll just have to wait for them to make a swing through the West Coast (hopefully!)
Being a parent myself, I really enjoyed the story about Ed's daughter and her favorite song; "Reason I'll Be" a.k.a "No Ceiling". Ed also had a little rant about mothers milk and babies drinking it while listening to music probably gets them "high". Overall, Ed was in classic forum and in a real chatty mood with the audience last night which just added to intimate vibe.
Wow...what a evening! For an acoustic show, it sure seemed to rock out and I was pleasantly surprised with how long he played last night. I don't think there was a disappointed soul in the house afterwards.
Hopefully the crew that was hanging around afterwards to meet Ed got the opportunity to do so! And if you did, I want details!!! It was a pleasure seeing all the familiar faces again and great hanging out with all of you...Beachdweller, SOLAT319, VedHead27, iwasthere!!!
Peace & enjoy the rest of the shows..
