Some new Lanegan tunes that have come out recently:

Blank Diary Entry with Manic Street Preachers (from 'The Ultra Vivid Lament')

I'm Welsh so it's actually in the law that I have to listen to the Manics  =) It's an interesting match up.

    https://youtu.be/MtoRRnv0wcY

Dust Pneumonia Blues (from 'Home In This World: Woody Guthrie's Dustbowl Ballads')

    This one is just great!

One morning in March 2021 with the second wave of infections ripping through Ireland where he was newly resident, Mark Lanegan woke up breathless, fatigued beyond belief, his body burdened with a gigantic dose of Covid-19. Admitted to Kerry Hospital and initially given little hope of survival, Lanegan’s illness has him slipping in and out of a coma, unable to walk or function for several months and fearing for his life.

As his situation becomes more intolerable over the course of that bleakest of springs he is assaulted by nightmares, visions and regrets about a life lived on the edge of chaos and disorder. He is prompted to consider his predicament and how, in his sixth decade, his lifelong battle with mortality has led to this final banal encounter with a disease that has undone millions, when he has apparently been cheating death for his whole existence.

Written in vignettes of prose and poetry, DEVIL IN A COMA is a terrifying account of illness and the remorse that comes with it by an artist and writer with singular vision.

Thank goodness he is on the road to recovery. I can't wait to read this new book. When I ordered a signed copy of it from Rough Trade last week, it also came with a print of a sketch that Lanegan drew.

Music video for a song on the Dark Mark vs. Skeleton Joe album debuted this week. I have been listening to this album a lot the last two weeks and enjoy it a great deal.

I'm really wanting to buy this memoir, but I hesitate for a two reasons:

    1) in Canadian dollars with shipping it comes to $75 (from Rough Trade signed with the 12" painting print)
    2) I have pretty bad health anxiety, and if this book is all about an illness and recovering from, I'm afraid of what it will do to me.
    Darwinspeed, all.

    Cheers,

    HFD

Not a big fan of his scratchy vocals or solo work, but I like a few Screaming Trees songs, his contribution to Mad Season, and most of all I love his work with QOTSA.

I’m really enjoying that too. No idea when the vinyl is going to ship yet though…

It’s interesting that he’s done another memoir. I remember him saying that he had no intention of following up Sing Backwards and Weep because it was too painful digging up all those old ghosts. I’m really curious to read the new one, I couldn’t justify the shipping to Aus for a signed copy though.

    Thanks for passing that along.

After a significant delay, his new memoir, Devil In A Coma, arrived this past week. I am eager to read this, as I thought his previous book Sing Backwards and Weep was excellent.

In a recent interview, he said that he is working on a new album. Hope that he tours behind it soon and comes back to America on the tour.

Earlier this week it was the 28th anniversary of the release of Whiskey for the Holy Ghost. One of his very best.
