Had to have been covid, right?
not necessarily. he apparently had covid a while back and it was really hard on him; he was sick after it for months. but he's been having some type of health problems for a long time.

Ah. I thought I read he was still battling long symptoms. Sad regardless.

I absolutely could be getting that wrong. It might be long symptoms. I thought it was that he had covid and it was compounded with whatever other illness(es) he had. But I read about it a big ago, so could be mixing it up.

Sad, sad news. I thought he was one of those people who would outlive everyone, but at the same time it seems he's lived enough in one life that might fill three or four lifetimes for the rest of us. He made tremendous music. Scraps at Midnight and Whiskey for the Holy Ghost were two CDs I played endlessly and have never tired of. Many other great albums too. RIP.

Haven't been on these pages for weeks, but saw this headline and came here immediately cuz had to read comments of others who understood just how incredibly giant a loss this is.  Heartbroken.

He seemed really intense, seeing him live was so amazing and also kind of broke my heart as well. I really hope these last 20+ yrs for him have really held some joy and ease.

And whatever took him away, I hope he's now feeling free and at peace.

apparently had a really bad bout with it before. either complications of long haul shit or caught it again. will need to wait for confirmation one way or another.

I just started reading Devil In A Coma on Sunday (Mark’s book about being in a coma after getting Covid last year)
It feels like I’m in a warped reality right now.

What a massive loss. I really don't know how to express how much his music and writing has meant to me.

His appearance on Joseph Arthur's podcast is required listening. Intense, funny, warm...you get to know the guy so much better. A true original.
