This is what "cancel culture" is to me. it's not "cancel culture" when morons like Trump are thrown of social media, or Gina Carano is taken out of Star Wars. But I think art being removed or discontinued is different. Not that I personally give a shit about the works of Dr. Seuss. But what's next? Will The Godfather be considered "problematic" due to it's portrayal of Italian-Americans? Is the crying Indian gag in Wayne's World too insensitive to Native Americans? Will satires like Blazing Saddles still be okay?

^^^Meanwhile, just a reminder that there are an estimated 20,000 people human trafficked in the United States. Anyone half as concerned about human trafficking as the right to vote?2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. This Dr Seuss thing is so fucking stupid. Makes you understand why some on the way right hate this stuff.
I don't understand the comparison between human trafficing and the right to vote though? Give as many people as possible the right to vote, and hopefully they'll elect the right people to solve those problems.www.myspace.com0 -

Ledbetterman10 said:Well I posted the Dr. Seuss thing because it seemed to fit this thread. Merkin Baller posted a tweet that has nothing to do with Dr. Seuss, but was basically "This (voting rights) is more important than Dr Seuss" (which I do think voting rights are more important). But since he completely changed the subject, I did the same. There's always something more pressing that what's being talked about. But that's why there's different topics on message boards. If someone was complaining about the Phillies bullpen in the Phillies thread, I wouldn't be like "But what about voting rights? Voting rights are more important than baseball."0

Forget getting through to the far right. Those of us in the middle who don't like either party are turned off by this sort of stuff. Hell, there's probably far-left folks who roll their eyes at this sort of thing.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. The right, the left, the middle, oh my!
Erasing something doesn’t make it go *poof*. Apply common sense and compassion, and fuck everyone else - the sensitive, the overly sensitive, the numb. Harsh? Perhaps...Also, I wonder if those books could be used as a learning tool rather than pulling them altogether. Explain to the younger ones about stereotypes, outdated schools of thought and action, etc.0 -

Explain to the younger ones about stereotypes, outdated schools of thought and action, etc.I agree the mob mentality in our society sucks, and I definitely don’t deny its existence. I couldn’t care less about the bachelor, but I think it’s dumb for that guy to lose his job over some boneheaded statements.I just don’t think “cancel culture” is the problem that yes, The Right is making it out to be, at least not compared to some of the other issues currently plaguing our nation.
Regarding your last comment, it’s already done that for me... this morning alone I read up a bit Dr Seuss’s history of political cartoons, and it’s an interesting one. I implore all to do some research on it.I don’t agree w/ censorship, but OTOH, it’s not unreasonable to look at some art & decide it isn’t really relevant for modern day (if not outright offensive & racist).0 -
One big thing that is being missed here is that the decision was made by the organization that promotes and protects Geisel‘s estate, not an outside body. Is it really “cancelling” if the artists themselves or their estate makes the decision to withdraw works or cease publication? Why shouldn’t people be allowed to cease production or publication of works they own, if they don’t think they are relevant or appropriate any longer?my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0

Last I checked no one was banning Dr Seuss books. & the Mr Potato Head outcry was absurd... the existence of a gender neutral toy shouldn’t threaten anyone’s way of life.I agree the mob mentality in our society sucks, and I definitely don’t deny its existence.
