    Yes I read a few days ago that there's no obligation to provide power.  So if the costs spike, or even plummet, the companies can shut down.

    I agree. There are certain critical services that must be regulated.  Electricity, heat and water are right at the top of the list.

    Power is back, no water...sometimes water does trickle out and we catch it and then boil it on the stove before running it through the brita.  Taking baths with hot washcloths of boiled water. Saving our wash water to flush toilets.   Could be 7 days or more before water is restored. I’m glad to be warm again though.

    Lol Knock some sense into the idiots in our state that keep voting for politicians and policies that cause this.   Maybe donate to a cause that is helping people out here in Texas that are less fortunate than me.
    I really hope that this is a wake up call to Texas citizens that govt actually has a purpose and the profit motive is not always aligned with the needs of citizens.  But I'm sure this is Obama's fault.
    Funny thing about it...the most heavily republican voting areas didn’t get hit like south TX did, so I doubt it will make much difference.  The TX panhandle is not on Ercot and had pretty much no issues because the panhandle is used to cold weather.  
    I can imagine the panhandle being ultra conservative, but isn't it small population wise,  compared to the mega cities? Dallas was on the Texas grid, right?
    The panhandle has a pretty large population, but they are mostly rural.  Dallas and most of the southern cities usually lean Democrat anyways.  It will be interesting how much of the blame gets put on the mayors of the larger cities.
    The cities absolutely, but not Plano, Ft Worth and the suburban areas, or am I wrong?  I am not trying to argue, but curious whether a big part of the red population was affected by this issue, enough to get some movement to winterize first, and maybe connect to the two national grids.  
    From the chatter I’ve heard, people are mostly upset with the power companies and city officials than anything, but there will definitely be political ripples from all of this...
    Hopefully all Texans will come to learn their state is the only one that decided to get off the grid, so they could escape FERC regulation. These are state level decisions, not city and local. Texas has been run by republicans for decades and they are proud to tell the feds, eff no regulation in our state.

    well...regulation calls for winterizing assets. Southern states don’t need to do that? Although it may not get cold every winter, it certainly will get freezing cold one winter, and that’s all it takes for people to pay with their lives. Once.

    Interesting watching news clips, the residents knew to have winter coats, but state leadership didnt know to winterize the utility assets?

    This comes down to separation policy.  Do you support the separation policy by Trump/Miller?  There's not much dispute that you have to have someplace to put unaccompanied minors who cross the border.  Second, are you saying that Biden's policy includes putting these kids in cages?  I guess I'm trying to figure out if you're being serious or just making jokes about the plight of kids.

    Why is it that Democratic administrations are so war like?  Here we are, just a little over a month into the Biden administration and, BOOM! , more war.  WTF??? And why would Iran want to remain in talks with then when we just bombed them?  Are you kidding me?  "Oh, you just bombed me.  Well, gosh, lets talk."  What that fucking hell?
