Yep, that completely changed it. Don't know what the fuss was all about.mace1229 said:Seeing them justify adding an "M" to make Pearl Jamm reminds me of Vanilla Ice justifying Ice Ice Baby by adding that "tisk" to the beat0 -

I saw Skid Row open for Kiss in Chicago, September 2000 in front of 20,000, less than a year later, August 2001, they were playing a bar in South Elgin, IL in front of maybe 100 people, maybe 75 and that was real band, it happensmookieblaylock1969 said:

What about all the PJ tribute bands in USA, Australia and here in the UK, nothing in the new about that. Pearl Jamm are a fantastic bunch of guys who love the real PJ and put on a fantastic show. I have loved PJ since 1994 before anyone gets on me. Look out Stereotonics, Noasis and Foo Fighterz. I am in shock because I love PJ and the bands outlook, charitable work and morality as well as they’re music. As mentioned before, these guys stepped up at a few hours notice when London gig was cancelled, they are good guys
I just think they don't want people to confuse them. I've seen post where people thought the actual band was going to play. Either way the cover band can still use a different name and play their songs if they still want to.Post edited by Foriginal Sin onChicago 6/29/98, Alpine Valley(EV) 6/13/99, Alpine Valley 10/08/00, Chicago 10/09/00, Phoenix 10/20/00, Orlando 4/12/03, Tampa 4/13/03, San Diego 6/05/03, Vegas 6/06/03, Phoenix 6/07/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Orlando 10/08/04, D.C. 10/11/04, Chicago 5/16/06, Chicago 5/17/06, LA 7/12/08, Chicago 8/23/09, Chicago 8/24/09, LA 10/07/09, San Diego 10/09/09 (Front Row Center, Finally), Phoenix(EV) 11/4/11, Wrigley 7/19/13, Phoenix 11/19/13, Denver 10/22/14, Wrigley 8/20/16, Wrigley 8/22/160 -
Also, if this ruins anyone's musical lives its because they allowed it to. If asking someone to change their name to something other than Pearl Jamm is going to ruin their musical life, it was basically over already.Foriginal Sin said:

This would not have been a big deal if they made a statement that just said "Due to reasons beyond our control here is our new name. Please come see us at our next gig."
But drawing it out and playing the victim and changing it to one of the few possible names actually dumber than what it was to begin with may ruin their musical lives.

i legitimately can't imagine why. a tribute band getting a cease and desist is big news? what the hell?demetrios said:MedozK said:I think everyone is giving these guys way to much publicity. They should be happy as hell.
They should be. Top Google "Pearl Jam" search result for the whole week has been about this story.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -
It's about infringing on their trademarks and copyrights. You could lose a trademark or not be able to defend it if you let other people use it to sell their merchandise without permission.leespj said:I can understand Pearl Jam's management and lawyer's etc having an issue with Pearl Jamm but why (if true) has the band instigated this? Disappointed. If anything Tribute bands only enhance the Pearl Jam brand. Tribute bands can generate more fans of the actual genuine band or even get casual fans going to more gigs, former fans returning to the band they once loved, buying more merch etc.
Petty if you ask me. I really hope this is a management and legal matter rather than the band wanting it dealt with.I miss igotid880 -

Pearl Jam should shadowdrop a new album to drown out the story.HughFreakingDillon said:

Two cents as a lawyer: people overestimate their ability to do the right thing voluntarily. A cease-and-desist isn’t a law suit; it’s a formal way of warning someone. It’s nice to think that this by-all-accounts pleasant group of musicians would just stop using the band’s intellectual property if they got, say, a personal call from Ed f-ing Vedder and they resolved it all amicably, but (1) that assumes that these guys simply had no idea they were using the band’s name etc without consent, (OF COURSE they knew they what they were doing) and (2) it incentivizes people to do the same thing. (Use the bands stuff in a way that gets Eddie Vedder to personally call or write you).
I have absolutely no issue with this happening how it did. Don’t like getting a legal warning from your favorite band? Don’t give them a reason to.1998-06-30 Minneapolis
