im starting a tribute to all tribute bands that cease and desist letters over the years.

still working on a name. probably something with 2 ms and 2 ds but need to find the right words.

may have been mentioned early in the thread, but it is funny that the iron maidens are not getting any flack.

they are all female iron maiden tribute. they actually tour the world, play the music, have a robot eddie like character, and sell merch with a female eddie character. the difference i they know the band and the band have been vocal supporters of the maidens for years.

So... if there was a tribute band to Pearl Jamm would it be called Pearl Jammm?

I’m thinking of changing my screen name to dimitrispearljamm as a tribute to the king of all PJ fans.

What a dumb name for a band and they changed it to an even dumber name. It’s no surprise that they can only play other people’s music since they clearly have zero creativity

If they were going to draw from this experience to inspire a name change, then Cease & Desist would have been cool.

Seeing them justify adding an "M" to make Pearl Jamm reminds me of Vanilla Ice justifying Ice Ice Baby by adding that "tisk" to the beat

Yep, that completely changed it. Don't know what the fuss was all about.

Why are they picking on one band in times like these.? What about all the PJ tribute bands in USA, Australia and here in the UK, nothing in the new about that. Pearl Jamm are a fantastic bunch of guys who love the real PJ and put on a fantastic show. I have loved PJ since 1994 before anyone gets on me. Look out Stereotonics, Noasis and Foo Fighterz. I am in shock because I love PJ and the bands outlook, charitable work and morality as well as they’re music. As mentioned before, these guys stepped up at a few hours notice when London gig was cancelled, they are good guys
Stereotonics and Noasis still sound different.
I just think they don't want people to confuse them. I've seen post where people thought the actual band was going to play. Either way the cover band can still use a different name and play their songs if they still want to.
I don’t think going to a back street pub in Brighton for a tenner and expecting to see the real PJ happens enough to ruin 5 peoples musical lives
I saw Skid Row open for Kiss in Chicago, September 2000 in front of 20,000, less than a year later, August 2001, they were playing a bar in South Elgin, IL in front of maybe 100 people, maybe 75 and that was real band, it happens

Also, if this ruins anyone's musical lives its because they allowed it to. If asking someone to change their name to something other than Pearl Jamm is going to ruin their musical life, it was basically over already.
This would not have been a big deal if they made a statement that just said "Due to reasons beyond our control here is our new name. Please come see us at our next gig."
But drawing it out and playing the victim and changing it to one of the few possible names actually dumber than what it was to begin with may ruin their musical lives.

I can understand Pearl Jam's management and lawyer's etc having an issue with Pearl Jamm but why (if true) has the band instigated this? Disappointed. If anything Tribute bands only enhance the Pearl Jam brand. Tribute bands can generate more fans of the actual genuine band or even get casual fans going to more gigs, former fans returning to the band they once loved, buying more merch etc.
Petty if you ask me.  I really hope this is a management and legal matter rather than the band wanting it dealt with.

It's about infringing on their trademarks and copyrights. You could lose a trademark or not be able to defend it if you let other people use it to sell their merchandise without permission.

Pearl Jam should shadowdrop a new album to drown out the story.
