I was shocked when The Daily Show replaced Jon Stewart with Trevor Noah and man it might be better. Noah kills it every single day.

Winter hasn't even hit full steam and I'm already loathing the cold. Need to get some thick skin this year cause being outside seems like it'll be more important than ever.

Man it's a wonder what sun can do. Yesterday, was great. Got out. Walked my mother-in-law's dog; it was just nice. The simple in winter is amazing.

2020 has had me going back to War on Drugs and Vampire Weekend more than any band. I think Vampire Weekend will have the most sound legacy of the early 2000's and I wonder if War on Drugs will ever get more credit...will they be a Wilco or fringe band like Hold Steady and fade out?

I've found The Mandalorian is my happy place. I wake up on Friday morning and watch it by myself early in the morning (before anyone else is up). I usually watch most shows on the treadmill but just sitting with coffee and escaping is something I can't recall having for quite some time.

So I got to thinking about this show and if it happens songs that would be an homage to the Apollo's tradition. One thought I was had was to do "Daughter" with Aretha's (yes written by Otis Redding) "Respect" as an extended tag. Whenever I think of the Apollo I think of James Brown....not sure how PJ can do James Brown but I think the "Daughter"/"Respect" could be awesome.

When ev sings smile live, I hear lots of James Brown's signature 'he ha ha' not sure if that's just him clearing his vocal chords! Sounds james browney to me.

Love it. Good call with "Smile." A song that should be played at every single concert from here on out. I think I could use that as an opener. "Don't it make you smile," just to be at a show with people and singing till we burst....man just the thought gives me chills.

Been listening to a lot of Petty lately. Mostly "Wildflowers" and I appreciate his song writing more and more. The expanded edition includes a ton of songs that were released a few years later on "She's the One Soundtrack" and while there are great songs they never quite fit together. But on "Wildflowers" they thrive. "California" is a short song that's quite beautiful and I never noticed this line: "Sundown, red skies/nobody's been around/ sundown, blue eyes/ I kinda like this part of town....." Such a sly line, whoever's sitting next to him makes the place better. It fits with the calm bitterness inside "Wildflowers." I really think Petty is underrated. Just beautiful and gentle music. It got sadder and angrier for "Echo" (an underrated album) but man so much beauty.

I had this thought last night, music is so fascinating in that a song can put you in a place and time the minute you hear the opening chords. Just a song becomes a trip to the past.

Word is 2022? Depressing but what's another year? I'm just learning life in the time of Covid is like dog years in some ways and in others the speed of light.

Listening to the nice gift we got from Ten Club. Solid boot. I've heard it before but it's been awhile. If I don't have to listen to boots that aren't soundboard quality, I don't. Funny thing is, when you think about it you still have 20 years of boots highly accessible. But these old school shows are awesome.

I read someone claim the 94 show has the best version of W.M.A. and man Elwayvedder is right. It's so good. Such teeth and taut musicianship - this is how the song should always be played and I'd love to hear it as more than a tag.

It's interesting when you bring out the aspects of the holidays you loved as a kid and see what sticks with your kids. Checking out Christmas Lights is hands down the best...and my neighborhood does it right. It's such a lovely time and this year it appears people really went all out.

2020 has been a year of quiet music for my record player. Maybe it's the odd calm felt in the pandemic time but albums like Nick Cave's Ghosteen stick more. The soft melody and dark tragedy at work in each and every song is something I can't let go of. I listened to Ghosteen a lot in the fall of 2019 but left it go cause it was too hard to listen to (having kids and thinking of what Cave endured with his son's death is hard to digest when looking at my own kids) but it comes back. It's gorgeous even if damn near impossible to imagine.

My daughter has motivated me to dip back into a novel I started writing for her more than a few years ago. She's still not old enough to appreciate it (not that the writing would be good enough to appreciate anyway) but writer's block and all it's nice to go back and try.

As much as I love the idea of Ten Club and the band releasing old shows for us to watch, I'm just cool with listening. This Rome show is great. I watch, but mostly listen when I find shows on YouTube. But I get that people love it. They want it. It's a cool service. I might tune into an old era of the band I never saw. Now, that would be cool.

I read today that Bowie recorded a cover of Dylan's "Tryin to Get to Heaven" just before he passed. It's a gorgeous song and I can only imagine the beauty Bowie gave it.

Apparently Bowie covered Dylan's "Tryin to Get to Heaven" awhile ago and it's get a limited release on his 74th b-day. This is an amazing song off Dylan's most underrated record (Time Out of Mind). I can't wait to see what Bowie did with this song, it's gorgeous and timeless which makes perfect sense for someone of Bowie's ilk and with him gone I'm sure all the more gut wrenching. I love Dylan covers, most of the time they flail but I have high hopes.

I always assumed when I had kids that I’d rule the radio but when you get in the trenches and go for longer than an hour it’s all about maintaining sanity. It’s hard but man you just let go to make it go by as fast as possible.

When I think about 2020 and find the positives I heard a lot of great music. Quarantine really gave me time to listen to entire catalogues and delve into albums and artist from this year I wouldn’t have given a huge chance to. I didn’t love all of it but I found a new appreciation for artists like Jay-Z but still can’t crack Kendrick Lamar. I’ll keep trying.

If you would've told me that a year when Pearl Jam, Dylan, and released records but they all come in a distant second to Taylor Swift in listens I would've said you're nuts. Then again you could've told me about 2020 as a whole and I might've walked away.

I can't remember the last time I slept in past 7:00 - kids make life strange in that regard. You change everything and the little things that were routine become your white whale - sleep is beautiful but sleeping in is divine.

It's funny, I never thought I'd be a person so ready for a New Year. Even when I was younger and going out for New Years was a blast, I was just going out for the party...this year I'm ready for a reboot, like anyone on this board I'm ready to see what new can come and how we can actually make 2021 wonderful. I just realized yesterday Vampire Weekend has a song on their latest called 2021 and it's a calm song, well over a year old and yet, says enough about forgetting that we can all move on with some clarity.

Funny - I wasn't interested in Eddie's 7' but now that they've added it to becoming an EP, I want a copy. Other than "All the Way," I just don't think I'll ever want a vinyl single but an EP, I love those.

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross did the music for Soul and Mank; fascinating dichotomy.
