So I assume since I was questioned about it a while back, Trudeau’s prorogue is as bad as Harper’s (worse in my opinion since we’re in the midst of a global health crisis)?

Minister of Finance seems like a really important job.  Am I the only one bothered that it took a day to fill it?  If this were the private sector it would take them months, and gigaton's of scrutiny to come up with suitable candidate?  Sometimes it seems the vetting process is a bit light for these roles.

I wonder if the conservatives are going to try and mount an actual campaign before a next election?  IE I don't think Trudeau won the last election because he had the confidence of Canadians.  I think he won (with only about 1/3rd of the vote) because the conservatives had a pretty narrow agenda.  Prairies, Oil, and Conservative values.   Thus they didn't represent a large portion of the remainder of Canada.

Trudeau does seem to bumble a lot, and it should be easy to beat him, but you're not going to do it if your party is only focused on the prairies needs and values.

    Big night for Conservatives.
If they were smart they would elect Lewis. I think she is the most capable and the change the party needs to broaden the party
but it will probably be MacKay

Maybe Trudeau will shock everyone and step down next month leaving room for prime minister Freeland

    It’s o’Toole.  Don’t know about him....
He was MP in Durham. Seems like an ok dude...  but in my opinion, he's showing signs of being a little too much into the Trump mentality of conservatism.

The last thing I want to do is vote for Trudeau again.  I did in 2015 for one reason and one reason only... the Conservative party tried to hoodwink me.  I honestly think all politicians are greasy no matter what party, Trudeau proving that week by week it seems.

That said.. I don't want Canada to even come close to resembling what Trump has done to USA.  Call me a snowflake, leftist, socialist.. call me whatever you want...  but I honestly like freedoms FOR ALL protected.

O'Toole's views on "cancel culture" are not in line with mine, at all. He seems like that kind of conservative that puts money and jobs over all else, which I don't agree with.  Energy is important, but not at the cost of our environment. I don't think O'Toole sees it that way.

That said.. he seems funny, likes craft beer.  Not sure if he likes Pearl Jam, that might be a deal breaker.

But in all honesty... I don't think we're close to a good leader in Canada.  It's heart breaking and annoying that we seemingly go through party after party after party spinning our tires and getting nowhere.

I'll be keeping an eye on him.. seeing what he's about.

You make some excellent points.  Except he is not Trump or even close.  I did a little reading up on him.  He is a military man who served Canada with honour.  Neither Trudeau nor Trump have ever served their country.  I liked his speech and I am willing to give him a chance...and as long as he sticks to his core principles that he laid out in his speech, then I am likely to vote for him.

Trudeau has twice been convicted by the ethics commissioner, likely will be found guilty a 3rd.

Trudeau is an unethical human that has no morals...

You might as vote NDP over the liberals.  From what I see the liberals are farther left than the NDP are and Singh seems like at least decent human...however...he can not keep propping the liberals up, at some point the NDP have to help the bloc and conservatives pull the plug on this unethical government.

However, I am mostly fine with the spending (other than the WE thing)...I would like to see what the liberals have in store going forward.

I want to see Singhs plan, same for O'Toole...

Whether people like it or not...eventually the spending has to slow down.

Taxes are going up, that's a given at this point.  The corporate tax can be raised as well as the GST (3% increase is my preferred increased tax)

I also think we can put this myth created by liberals that Albertans and Saskatchewan Conservatives are racist...Lewis finished 1st in Alberta and 2nd Saskatchewan...Lewis had a strong showing and may be be a strong candidate to lead the party at some point.

It does seem odd that the liberal shout about equality and scream racism towards the conservatives when they in actuality have a leader caught in black face images.

Good points.  I think what I was trying to say is I hope that he doesn't evolve into more of a Trump conservative. If he doesn't, he'll likely get my vote.

Talk about bad manners, the statement from the Liberal Party of Canada.  A simple congratulations was all that was needed.  I'm old enough to remember the days when that was the norm. The first paragraph was all that really needed saying.

"OTTAWA — The following statement was issued by Suzanne Cowan, President of the Liberal Party of Canada.

“On behalf of Liberals across Canada, I want to congratulate Erin O’Toole on becoming the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition. I have great respect for those who put their name on a ballot and step forward to contribute to our democracy.

“This is the most important moment in a generation, as Canadians face the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19 and as we work together to change Canada’s future for the better. Justin Trudeau and our Liberal team will keep working with him and all parties in the weeks ahead to ensure that workers, families, and businesses are supported as our communities get back on their feet.

“We have a real chance to build a Canada that is healthier and safer, greener, more fair, and more competitive, and while we will have our differences, we hope the Conservative leader will join us in that work.

“We also hope Mr. O’Toole will reconsider continuing to push the same policies of Stephen Harper and Andrew Scheer that he also proposed in this leadership campaign. They would take Canada backward by making harmful cuts to services that Canadians count on, weakening Canada’s gun control laws, rolling back our work to fight climate change, and much more.

“What the Conservatives haven’t proposed is any plan to support Canadians or keep our economy strong through this unprecedented time — and in fact, Conservatives called for the cancellation of emergency support programs.

“Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada are the only team with a positive plan to invest in the middle class and the most vulnerable, keep Canadians safe and supported, and protect a clean environment. While some parties are focused only on an election, our focus is on moving Canada forward and delivering support for Canadians through this unprecedented time.”"

The last several days I've been using Trudeau's legal pot to numb me to the damage he seems intent on doing to the country (having lived through Butts' disastrous green policies in Ontario)...but now it's wearing off, lol.  I genuinely fear the socialism he seems to be moving towards (with a minority government no less).

If his plan is so drastic it requires a Throne Speech, why not present the plan to the people?  Oh yeah, he wants the opposition to do the dirty work for him and cause an election.  I'm truly starting to wonder if he's tired of the job (hard things are hard, after all) and is trying to force himself out (so he can say he was kicked out of power instead of admitting his failings and resigning).

In Montreal they beheaded a John McDonald statue...good.   He was a horrible human being.  Good to see statues of colonists coming down.

This crap that Canada wouldn’t exist without this asshole is bs.  Canada existed 1000’s of years before the European assholes decided to colonize and treat 1st nation peoples like 5th class citizen.

I couldn’t agree more. I meant it more as a snapshot in time. You can’t put a bar any lower than Trump in the free world. It’s really alarming.

That would me amazing.  Here in BC we passed a law saying we'd go to DST when Oregon/Washington/California adopt it.  The problem is those states need to get the US federal government to approve it, thus I'm not sure we'll ever see a permanent move to DST.

I did not realize it was up to the US federal government.  The bill also states Queb and New York need to be aboard.  Just shows how stupid Ontario is, they left out Michigan and I live in Southwestern, Ontario...and Michigan and Onratio's supply chain are very much tied together.

I think it's sickening that Canada does not act on its own.  Who gives a fuck about the USA.

I thought it made sense.  It's one thing to have time zones going west to east, but it's another going north to south when the sun's position isn't really effected.  I think it makes sense to try and make it uniform with the US.    Where I live sometimes we hop on my friends (boat in non covid times) and go to San Juan Island which is about 20km away, or we often go to Seattle for concerts.  Have a time zone between us and Washington state does seem a little ridiculous.

That being said the US can't ever get it together and pass their half of the change, maybe we give up and do it anyways.
