American cheese slices make me think of my Aunt Carol. She was my godmother and had me stay over all the time. Anytime I popped in the door, including college and even when married, she would always say, "There's cheese on the door for you." She also always had a cake dome of homemade chocolate chip cookies sitting in the middle of the table.
Slices of American cheese are nostalgic, but not a staple in my house. The last pack I bought was for daughter's boyfriend at the time. Super picky eater. Would only eat grilled cheese sandwiches or strawberry jelly sandwiches. Since he tried to kill her, he became persona non grata and, well, we just ate the cheese rather than waste it.
