Personally, I can't wait to watch the Apple TV thing tonight but only fans are going to click on that option because it's a choice.  Real promotion means doing things outside the norm and hitting things that aren't necessarily just for hardcore fans.  (SNL, Late Night Shows, Fortnite (gasp), Advertisements, Morning shows, etc). Unfortunately, PJ relies on live shows / touring to do the majority of new album promotion, which it should.

Unfortunately it feels like this album is DOA.  Could not be a worse time in recent memory to hope to sell something.  Hopefully when they finally get on the road, the album will get a boost.
Apologies for reposting myself but I think it still applies.  In my opinion they should have postponed  the album release date the same day as when they postponed  the spring tour. That is of course if they cared about the charts as much as we do on this thread!?

    They don't.

I think they were pretty excited to get this out there, and I think they're pretty happy that it has been well-received, and that it seems prescient.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Figures. Good for SBWM. Surprised Quick Escape didn't do anything.

Nah. I am super glad it came out when it did. A lot of people needed it at that time and I think they knew that...

  • I noticed that PJ is offering a lot of options to download an album for an additional $7 when purchasing certain items on their web site. That should help a bit. I plan on buying a few extra copies of Gigaton on vinyl as birthday gifts for friends. On a similar note, I have a feeling Lightning Bolt may have reached 500,000 in sales by this point, since it had about 411K in December 2014, which was only 14 months after its release.
  • Here are some worldwide numbers for Gigaton:

    Portugal: #1 / #1 / #1 / #1 / #4
    Spain: #1 / #2 / #2 / #2
    Italy: #1 / #16 / #44 / #45 / #20 / #19
    Austria: #1 / #8 / #15 / #22 / #31

    Netherlands: #2 / #7 / #27 / #35 / #59 / #94
    Germany: #3 / #4 / #15 / #22 / #28 / #39
    Australia: #3 / #9 / #20 / #44
    Norway: #4
    USA: #5  / #66 (63.000 1st week sales, including 14.000 Vinyl)
    Canada: #5 Kanada
    Finland: #5 / #23
    UK: #6 / #40 (7.052 1st week sales)

Interesting to see the steady climb of Superblood Wolfmoon at rock radio. This song really grew on me and perhaps it has for many stations / listeners. Took me 10+ listens before it kicked in as a favorite. Seems to get better with each listen and one of my favorite tracks on the record! Looks like Retrograde is climbing quickly in the AAA format. HITS has it as #17 so far this week with a 32% increase in spins. Hopefully, this one crosses over into multiple formats. I think it has that potential as one of the strongest songs on the record and seems very radio-friendly.

Wolfmoon has grown on me too. I am quite bewildered that Retrograde is supposedly doing well and will be the next single. If I were them I'd do everything they can in this new shuttered world to promote 7 and Quick Escape though.

It's been the next single for a few weeks now. Yea I hope they have a standalone video for Quick  Escape and give it a push. I think  Take the Long Way can do well on rock radio. They need to spread it out more. If they do release another single, do it in September or October. Already 4 singles off this album. Lightning Bolt had 3. But they didn't really promote Lightning Bolt the single. Getaway was supposed to be a single as well I believe.

Retrograde grade will be in the top 10 next week at Triple A.
If Present Tense was a well known song it could have been higher

Original post updated for the week ending June 6, 2020.  "Retrograde" moves up to No. 12 on the Triple A chart and holds at No. 45 on the Rock Airplay chart.  "Superblood Wolfmoon" reverses course to reach a new peak at No. 8 on the Canada Rock chart.  Gigaton falls out of the top 100 in sales... but not by much (The New Abnormal by the Strokes is No. 100 in sales and one spot above Gigaton on Top Current Album Sales, so Gigaton could be as high as No. 101 in sales).
