99% of Those Who Died From Virus Had Other Illness, Italy Says
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-18/99-of-those-who-died-from-virus-had-other-illness-italy-says
As many as 82 million Americans with employer-based coverage have a pre-existing condition, ranging from life-threatening illnesses like cancer to chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, or heart disease.
How many without employer-based coverage?????
Wake up.... it's not just "old" peopleUp to 20% of younger adults infected with coronavirus end up hospitalized, CDC says
https://news.yahoo.com/20-younger-adults-infected-coronavirus-001923791.htmlUp to 1 in 5 younger adults in the U.S. infected with coronavirus wind up in the hospital, according to a new analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC looked at more than 2,400 cases of COVID-19 in the United States over the past month in the analysis released Wednesday.
It found that coronavirus patients over 85 had the highest death rate with 10% to 27% dying from the disease. That’s similar to data from China that indicates a majority of deaths are in people over 60, according to the CDC.
It also echoes CDC warnings that older Americans are much more likely to get sicker.
For younger people, the CDC found between 14% and 20% of adults between the ages of 20 and 44 were hospitalized for coronavirus. About .1 to .2% died from the virus.
But you are posting in a public forum and are appearing extremely callous that your under 60 friends and family with very treatable and normally minor conditions such as asthma and hypertension may be facing a lethal disease?
That comforts you?
You can be happy that if you and your love ones that do not have any underlying illnesses are more than likely going to be ok if and when you get this virus. That does not mean you do not care about any other stats or any other people any less. Why do I even need to explain this out loud? The link above is great news if true for a lot of people and should be posted since it debunks a lot of misinformation that has been spreading around a lot lately.
I'm questioning why anyone would be comforted by the misinformation that those under 60 are safe if otherwise healthy, which is dangerously vague and inexact term the medical world.
....
"It’s comforting because it explains what otherwise appeared to be anomalous data from Italy, and knowledge is power. And for me, it’s comforting because it tells me that my otherwise healthy under-60 friends and family are probably going to be okay physically."0 -

The situation in Italy is specifically why I don't understand anyone trying to downplay this, or questioning what they perceive to be an overreaction. These are desperate times for Italy, and it's not a third world country. No, no one needs to stockpile 6 months worth of toilet paper, but with that being said, people SHOULD be staying at home, and bars & restaurants should be closed right now. The economy is f'ed regardless. The priority for everyone right now should be on saving lives & containing the spread.
If you're not paying attention to what's going on Italy and / or think it can't happen where you are, you have your head in the sand.

Statistically, we are ALL probably going to be OK. Why you have a problem with people taking some measure of comfort from that is where you are losing us.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
I don't get the fighting over whether people find certain aspects of this whole mess comforting or not.Personally I find Corona immensely worrying, not just from a health perspective but also a social and economic one. I'm terribly concerned about my grandparents (all 90 years old) and parents (60 and 62, mild heart problems) catching it. All of them are worried! All of them would also tell you that they're just hoping to get through this and they're glad that at least it doesn't affect children. Looking at all my friends with children I'm extremely relieved that they will hopefully be safe. Is it wrong to find that comfort? I don't think so.Seeing young folk ignoring the danger and therefore potentially endangering others is a whole different story of course.0

Because our president, who is world famous for his misinformation, spread MONTHS worth of false comfort that will cost us lives.
We are facing the worst health crisis since apparently the Spanish flu, covering a hundred years, and possibly 80% of us will be completely unaware if we are asymptomatic and carrying the disease.
Just because you will live thru this does not mean potentially you could directly cause the death of others simply by deciding you are comfortable and it's ok to walk in public with your comfort shoes on0 -
