This is not even close to the same virus. H1N1 didn't send 10-15% of patients to the ICU due to Respiratory / Organ failure.

The tests are only effective for the people that take them. 83% infected with the virus don't even seek medical attention. What good is a test for the majority of folks that will treat this as a respiratory illness and not even consider being tested?
This is absolutely false. Please provide a source or stop spreading mistruths.
"The one thing we really don't need is mass hysteria," said Dr. Robert Murphy, executive director of the Institute for Global Health at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and an infectious diseases professor. "83 percent of people have such minor symptoms, they don't actually require any medical care at all. The 17 percent who do feel quite ill need to be evaluated, and some of them will require hospitalization and some of them will require intensive care."
Seems like an odd thing to misquote deliberately:
ACTUAL quote
"Eighty percent of people have such minor symptoms, they don't actually require any medical care at all. The 20 percent who do feel quite ill need to be evaluated, and some of them will require hospitalization and some of them will require intensive care."

South Korea ne case numbers are plummeting. That's 2 countries in a row where it first started. Get a 3rd country and you have a PATTERN. This disease, while communicable, is again, not going to end humankind or put millions in danger. It doesnt even appear sustainable for long periods.
I for one am rooting against this virus and hope to see Italy's announcement of decreasing new cases in the coming week or two. If you are rooting for the virus so you can be "right" just get some help

See a recurring trend? What "action" are you hoping to see "quickly?"Digging this shit up from upthread because it's such a bad take and shooting it down cuts to the heart of these garbage self-assurances.The recurring trend that was broken with the last item on your list is containment. Containing the spread of each of those other infectious agents were colossal undertakings, sometimes made at great sacrifice, that largely took place well away from your eyes (Except the mosquito borne illnesses, WNV and Zika. No one contained those, but they can't spread person to person easily). That critical containment step didn't happen here. SARS-CoV2 is undergoing unmonitored, unfettered community spread throughout the United States.Post edited by Mike D88 on

Well, lets be realistic, those 2 countries took drastic steps to slow the spread. They may not be clear indications that the virus has a short shelf life.jimjam1982 said:South Korea ne case numbers are plummeting. That's 2 countries in a row where it first started. This is how it started....NOT a deflection....NOT creating and easier argument. This was a comparison as I clearly stated of 2 viruses. The point was you are hypocritical to label CV19 any different than the Flu. The statistics were used as an example to back my claim not to change the argument. My argument was not against the CV19 concerns rather it was pointing out your ignorance/hypocritical narrative that you are presenting.JimmyV said:

Hey dingus, your own numbers indicate a <1% hospitalization rate for the flu. COVID-19 may have a hospitalization rate as high as 20%, but let's conservatively slash that to 5%. At a similar rate of spread as the flu, 15 million illnesses would require 750,000 hospitalizations. At any given moment in the United States, less than half of that many hospital beds are available.Post edited by Mike D88 on

And PJ N DC is making up numbers to validate his bullshit argument? Shocked I tell you.
The Coronavirus originated in the 1960's and has had 7 strands. Shockingly, the world survived the other 6 strands. You may continue you fear mongering and hypocritical thread. See you at the shows (Hypocrites).Human Coronavirus Types
Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. There are four main sub-groupings of coronaviruses, known as alpha, beta, gamma, and delta.
Human coronaviruses were first identified in the mid-1960s. The seven coronaviruses that can infect people are:
Common human coronaviruses
- 229E (alpha coronavirus)
- NL63 (alpha coronavirus)
- OC43 (beta coronavirus)
- HKU1 (beta coronavirus)
Other human coronaviruses
- MERS-CoV (the beta coronavirus that causes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS)
- SARS-CoV (the beta coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS)
- SARS-CoV-2 (the novel coronavirus that causes coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19)
People around the world commonly get infected with human coronaviruses 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1.
Sometimes coronaviruses that infect animals can evolve and make people sick and become a new human coronavirus. Three recent examples of this are 2019-nCoV, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV.

Exactly. My doctor did not give me any warning about large gatherings until this. Under 50, but had suprise blood clot on my brain last year. This is not anything like the flu. NOBODY knows how this virus will behave. Until we have an understanding of, really, anything about this virus, we just don't know. Fighting over % is a waste of energy. I was in very good physical condition, hiking mountains over 6k regularly, and then bam. We have no idea how vulnerable we all are.JimmyV said:
