Everything relies on the assumption that it will be a “free and fair” election. It won’t be. Those Florida felons granted the right to vote? Denied. Shenanigans in repub controlled states? But you're forgetting the argument that if the democrats don't go farther left they won't win. Maybe putting up Biden will guarantee another 4 more years of Trump, 2016 all over again. The street runs both ways.Lerxst1992 said:Regarding the "improve the plank" comment... Have medicare as an option on the exchanges and also an option to be provided by employers. But as I said above if we go too far left we risk a conservative court til 2055 and we have a better chance to live in Neil Peart's opus than seeing any govt assisted plan for all for the majority of this century.
The fact is most voters vote based on feelings more so than issues. If they have the right feeling about a candidate they will vote for them. Just look at voters second choices, they are all over the map. The same way Bernie Bros can turn around and vote for Trump.
The point is, you may be right and Biden is the right guy for this time or you could be wrong and someone like Bernie is the right guy to beat Trump. Who the fuck knows at this point. Biden personally worries me because he isn't a good candidate. He is old, acts old, and really doesn't motivate anyone. Hasn't looked good on the campaign trail and in the debates.0 -
Gotta give it to GOP voters, they are pragmatic in that regard.Lerxst1992 said:dignin said:

Democratic voters definitely need those feeling. GOP voters? All they need to hear is you'll protect their guns and give them their abortion judges and every single one of them are showing up. Even to vote for a rapist. Or who thinks rape is a joke
Bottom line about hillary, she was a Dukakis level candidate. She had no business being the nominee and rose thru the ranks largely on the merits of what her husband accomplished and being a carpet bagger
On Hillary, I don't think she was that bad. I think she's smarter than her husband, just not as gifted a politician.0 -
Except she got elected to the Senate and testified before a hostile repub House committee as Secretary of State for 14 and 12 hours respectively, I think, regarding Benghazi and hasn't declared bankruptcy, divorced her husband, sexually assaulted anyone, is a Yale law school grad and released 20 years of her tax returns. She had every business being the nominee as opposed to the current POS in the White House being his party's nominee.Lerxst1992 said:dignin said:

I just don't see anyone from this motley crew winning. Bernie is going to lose the moderate votes because "socialism." And everyone else fails the purity tests (in some cases more than just that).- Warren: Fauxcahontas
- Bloomberg: 64 sexual harassment claims and "stop and frisk"
- Mayor Pete: Police department
- Amy: Verbal abuse of her staff. She's pretty mean...and she's also being blamed for a life sentence a 16-year-old innocent kid got (but I haven't really looked into it)
- Biden: Apparently a history of lying about participating in the civil rights movement?
- All non-Bernie Candidates: The DNC clearly fixed it for them.
Here's the thing though for me- take all of these liabilities and add them up and pretend they are all negative attributes of one single candidate. I would still vote for that person over Trump. Why are we so concerned about these attributes when compared to Trump? I think we need to stop focusing on the negative and look at the positive. Any one of these candidates are better than Trump. Let's get the focus on that!
Side note: for a long time, I read your name as brainlux. Recognizing it as "brian" makes it seem so different.
Well said OnWis! It is so critical that Dems and all people of good sensibilities come together to support who ever comes out on top in the Democratic Party. No I don't have a dog but you could vote for Annie if she ran:
"brainlux", LOL. Years ago when I was Shipping and Receiving Manager and Merchandise Buyer for a College Bookstore I had some business cards printed. The first 50 of the batch were misprinted as "Brain Lux". They let me keep the misprints. If the said Bird Brain Lux I'd have kept them just the same.

"Bernie Sanders is a phenomenon. He doesn't get any attention, people don't talk about him. He just continuing to rack up these big numbers and big margins. And he's doing stuff that we are not talking about enough -- he's appealing to young people, and people of color increasingly, and women and the beer-track voters that people talk about for Biden, they're showing up for Bernie Sanders. He's got an army of unbelievable donors, if anybody else had all that we would be saying - this guy is our guy. But for whatever reason, we continue to talk about everybody but Bernie Sanders."

A very interesting thought from James Howard Kunstler:"What if the Corona virus turns out to be a genuine pandemic with legs, not some punk-ass, flash-in-the-pan bug like SARS… and infects hundreds of millions around the world…? And what if it happens to go logarithmic in the USA, as in China now…? And what if takes a few months, or half a year, to do that…? And what if Americans will not get on airplanes when that happens…? Or gather together in large numbers…? Or if government imposes quarantines …? Will the parties hold their nominating conventions? Might the November election have to be postponed?"There's more at the link as well.. Worth reading (for a change).

This assumes Hillary's life began with her husband in Arkansas. It didn't. There is no telling what she would have accomplished had she made different choices. She didn't. Had she made a different choice, I'm absolutely certain she would have had as remarkable a career anywhere, and could indeed have become your senator much sooner than she had under a different name. There is no telling. And I'm not sure why we have to constantly explain away her success. She ran for President. She lost. Why are we still in the tear down Hillary discussion? Four years ago, we had a candidate who could have beaten Trump had a small percentage of voters in a small handful of precincts in a small number of states decided to vote. That's how Clinton lost. The tear-down Hillary industry is still at it with their misrepresentation of the facts of the 2016 election, instead of reporting on the 50,000 voters who turned America over to Donald Trump. I don't understand why this is relevant or even productive as we figure out how to win 2020 -- except to say the nominee better spend every week in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Which of the candidates currently running is faring any better, minus the punching bag that was aimed at Hillary's face every minute of her public life? Which man would tolerate and survive the scrutiny she has survived?Lerxst1992 said:Halifax2TheMax said:

We are so divided we are just ready to give Trump the White House without a fight. These posts by SC and ecd are exactly why democrats repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot.

Remember when a very small sub section of the population felt that he wasn't doing enough for their particular micro-demographic?Lerxst1992 said:rgambs said:The anti-Pete thing really reminds me of Russian trolls.
