I hope someone is keeping track of how many times it's been posted to stop talking about each other and talk about the topic. THE TOPIC is Democratic Candidates in this thread. We've reached the point where time-outs or bans are the thin ice EVERYONE is walking on. Don't do this.

I'm guessing I elicited this reminder.  Sorry, boss!

So on topic- who do you all see as the current Dem front-runner?  I don't trust the polls.  Do we have a front runner yet?
If you don't trust the polls, even if they all tell the same story,  then how can one answer your question? There will be no frontrunner until New Hampshire next January.
Well, to start with, M, I trust you more than the polls.

Say, how about we forget all of the above and put Jon Stewart in there.  Now there's a guy who will get some shit done!
Well my info comes from polls!  Doh!

Jon and Stephen... too male and white?

    For some, I suppose.

We got a book in the other day (wish I could remember the name and title) written by a woman who is pushing the idea that no one should vote for a while male no matter how qualified he may be.

Not as radical, but along the same lines, we had a woman who was a first year student in the Human Services course for which I was program assistant who stood up in class and said, "I think we need to get rid of all men in this world".  The head prof (who is a woman) told me after class, "I don't think this one is going to be in this program for long."  The kind of statement that 1st year student made does the women's movement far more harm than good.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

I've seen some other articles and such that say all men should drop out of the D race..  that's insanity.  Does that really serve justice to women?  To argue that they can't beat a man in politics so all men need to exit?  I would think it would be an insulting argument to women.

Key stats...Trump won men and whites easily last time out.

Biden’s double-digit lead over Trump is largely driven by the gender gap. The former vice president edges Trump 47 percent to 46 among men. But among women, Biden leads by 26 points, 60 to 34.

Similarly, white voters are split evenly between the two, with Trump at 47 percent and Biden at 46. But Biden leads 85 to 12 among black voters and 58 to 33 among Hispanics.

Both candidates surpass 90 percent support from within their own parties, but independents break for Biden by a 58 to 28 margin.

It’ll tighten a ton between now and November 2020. It’ll also be interesting to see who of the 5 front runners stick around. Look for Bernie bros to be hurt again and attempts to have them stay home or vote Indy.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-41-percent-poll-084926124.html
    This is good:

President Donald Trump received some bad numbers on Tuesday when a new poll showed his top potential 2020 rivals beating him handily.

The Quinnipiac poll gave former Vice President Joe Biden a 13-point lead over Trump: 53-40.

And the rest of the numbers weren’t much better.

The poll said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) had a 9-point edge (51-42) over the president, while Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) maintained an 8-point lead (49-41). Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) wasn’t far behind, leading Trump by 7 (49-42). Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg each had a 5-point lead (47-42 in both cases).

Conservative attorney George Conway ― a frequent Trump critic despite the fact that his wife, Kellyanne Conway, is a White House counselor ― noted that Trump’s ceiling in the poll was 42%.

“That’s disastrous for any incumbent, whether he or she is running for dogcatcher or president,” Conway wrote on Twitter.

Others were even blunter in their assessment, causing “Trump 41%” to trend on Twitter. Some folks even made jokes about all the things that might beat Trump in 2020:

He's delusional if he thinks curing cancer is happening in his term...IF he wins.  When you are 80, you can downhill faster than you'd like.

But do the Dems plan on running anyone other than seniors...so expect a lot of seniors moments on the campaign trail...both sides.

Good luck to him.  Where will he find the time, being POTUS, taking his morning nap, afternoon nap, early evening nap and to get into a lab to cure cancer.../s

    He'll be a busy man...

I still think they should work on universal health care...that seems more realistic of a goal...of course I would like Canada to improve it universal health care...

I don't think he meant that he would personally find the cure, in the lab.  I think he's saying that during his term, he will consolidate resources to find the cure.  I think it's similar to the strategy that SU2C has been trying, the premise being that there are tons of talented teams working on different avenues of research, but they do a poor job of sharing data and information.  I'm not saying it's a realistic goal, but I also think it's a worthy goal.  While I agree with you on universal health, it's not a tradeoff in my book.

I cannot believe we're not addressing the fact that cancer isn't, ya know, this one singular thing. You cannot cure cancer as there are many forms. It's just a ridiculous statement.

    Good stuff right here:

They should be asking people more often in polls who their 2nd choice would be.

Warren is definitely an existential political risk to Sanders.  They occupy the same lanes.  She's having a good run right now.  Regarding California, I would not expect anyone but a strongly left progressive to win that state in the primary.  I can't recall where it is in the calendar, but if it's earl enough, it's a great opportunity for Warren to pick up major pledged delegates.  If Biden were to win, you'd have to call it a day because that means he's winning SC, PA, MI, and Ohio too.

They're early. Cali's part of Super Tuesday in early March.

PA (where I live) really should be lumped into Super Tuesday - basically, all swing states should be earlier as I see it. PA's late April and by then there's a good chance this thing has all but been decided at that point anyway.

But If Obama have his this mission to find a way to ”cure” cancer than maybe he shouldn’t things like being president come in the way of such a noble endevour?

He's delusional if he thinks curing cancer is happening in his term...IF he wins.  When you are 80, you can downhill faster than you'd like.

But do the Dems plan on running anyone other than seniors...so expect a lot of seniors moments on the campaign trail...both sides.
When has he said he would Cure cancer in his term?
Doesn't matter.  Al Gore never said he invented the internet, but everyone believed he did.
To be fair, everyone believed that he SAID he did, when he didn't say that.

He is worthy of inventing the internet though. All that matters.

I cannot believe we're not addressing the fact that cancer isn't, ya know, this one singular thing. You cannot cure cancer as there are many forms. It's just a ridiculous statement.

    Good stuff right here:

    https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-2020-california-democratic-primary-poll-20190613-story.html

I think we'll make it to late May with two candidates.  We have for the last two cycles, if my memory serves me.  So with California being Super Tuesday, that can make the race interesting. It may be practically decided though, to your point.  It probably was in 2016 as Hillary was racking up serious pledged delegate and vote leads that were truly insurmountable.  Interestingly, Bernie's only chance by May was gaining the super delegates, which they had spent months disparaging.
