This is essentially a concept album.  16 songs.  5-7 are really good and then the others are average or filler.   Still not bad music but definitely skipping a lot of songs on this album.

I'm really liking the new album...
with all the different "voices" it almost feels like more of a side project than a true album by The National to me.
It will be interesting to see how they do the new stuff live.
My favorite tracks so far are Quiet Light, Oblivions & Not In Kansas!!

Probably should have bought the black vinyl- the clear version is kinda noisy

Seeing some of it played live last night certainly did help me.  As I suspected, I listened to the album a few more times yesterday and it is growing on me.  Again, I never hated it, but I needed to step away from what I expect from a traditional album from The National and know this isn't it.

Album is really moving...Not In Kansas might be the saddest most depressing and yet beautiful song I've heard in a long, long time.
Reminds me of Leonard Cohen. Love it

I was thinking the same thing...a little too much on the extra singers.  Would much rather just hear Matt sing!

Has anyone come across a rip of the Cherry Tree fan club release?

Was only able to really listen to it once and that was in a car with other people who were talking, but I pretty much liked what I heard. Will have to give it a proper listen later.

Do they have a lot of b-sides and outtakes? I’d imagine so but I can’t say I’ve ever considered tracking them down.

Yeah, From sad Songs to High Violet they had a bunch. The Boxer and HV ones have been compiled on EPS. The Alligator ones are streaming. The Sad Songs ones you’ll need to DL.

I'm having a tough time really getting into this album. I like some of the songs, but it may take awhile for the album to really click with me.
    I LOVE MUSIC.

Every National album has been a slow grower. Its their thing.

I was worried about this being your reaction given that it took so long for a post to come from you.
