Just got tickets to their show in Napa. If you've never been to the Meritage it is a pretty small outdoor venue. I saw Dwight Yoakam there, and sat right in front. Last time, I saw The National was at the Greek in Berkeley and was way back on the lawn. This will be a much better experience.

After too many years of waiting I finally got to see The National a couple of weeks ago at a brilliant venue - The Eden Project in Cornwall, UK.
I honestly haven't stopped thinking about it since, so many great songs, such brilliant stage presence and fantastic musicianship, Bryan is always firmly in my top 10 favourite drummers!

So I have to go to work in chicago in late September and noticed The National were playing the night I arrive.  Then I noticed Julie Baker was playing that same night.  It was tough but I chose Julien Baker.  Haven't seen her before, and it would be a smaller venue than the United Center.  Have seen The National 5 times or so, but the last two records haven't exactly pushed the envelope so okay missing the new stuff.  Still bummed though.
  • I've seen The National in Portland, ME, and they were fantastic. Can't wait to see them in Mansfield. I'm even more pumped to see War on Drugs (I was originally supposed to see them in 2022 but was sick w/ Covid). Honestly two of the absolute best indie rock bands today.

Listening to War on Drugs for the first time and I had no idea they sounded like this. I always thought they were either an electronic band or boy band punk. TERRIBLE band name, but they sound really good. Now I am looking forward to seeing them open.

2LP/Cd version going up for PO everywhere.

But if you are in the fanclub, they are selling a 3LP version which is the whole show.

I was there as well.  Seen them plenty of times and always put on a great show.  I was up on the rail and always love how Matt interacts with the crowd.  Only downfall of the show was the Idles was playing on the same night across the street.  Would have loved to see them.  Cool to see both lead singers wearing eachothers band t-shirts that night.

I agree, it as a toss up of who to see. How did Fridays show compare to others you’ve seen?

They have all been awesome.  I've seen them at Massey Hall a couple of times which were probably my favorite.  I feel maybe they are more suited for smaller venues but the last couple of times at Budweiser stage have been amazing.

I'm wondring if anyone would mind posting up some of their favorite songs for either the National and or War on Drugs. I've heard some W.O.D on Sirius and tried a bit of the National on Apple essentials but not really getting it yet as far as the National though a cover of Morning Dew is awesome. They're coming to our area soon.

Thanks in general for the posts in Other Music too it's helped us discover several new to us bands which has been awesome.

So the National aren't a very immediate band. Famously. All their shit is slow burn.

I'd try their Apple Music essentials again. Their most accessible stuff is there and the cuts for the real ones.
