    I get your point, but speaking only for myself, it's not that I want people to fail, but festivals have ruined what I love about concerts (short sets, shitty crowd, crazy prices, hard to get to).  Being in Chicago, Lolla keeps a lot of my favorite bands from playing headline shows.  Over the last 5 years, I basically hope that none of "my bands" will play Lolla and if they do, they also do an aftershow that I can actually attend.  If wanting this festival trend to pull back because it has gotten out of hand and is hardly about the music anymore makes me a bad person, so be it.

    On that note Jay-z did a 1400 person show this weekend at the opening of Webster Hall.  How cool would THAT have been to attend?

    NYC reopening of Webster Hall = all suits and friends. It is a great venue though.
    I love music festivals.  Great way to spend a weekend in a park with friends drinking beer and seeing TONS of live music.

    I'm torn. I've been to amazing festivals and complete shitshows. If festivals could be downsized by 80%, but I get to choose the 20% I'm in.

    That’s exactly why I got tix to Ohana Fest this year. A “festival” yes, but smaller feel. Anyone ever go to the Life Is Good festival when it was around in Mass?

    Major festivals are no longer for the generation that grew up with alternative.  Nor should they be.  If you’re targeting people in their 30s and 40s you’re not going to sell 100,000 tickets every year. Look at the lineups eight years ago for Coachella or ACL and compare it to now.  Strikingly different.  Id say alternative rock had a nice long run of 20+ years of great festival lineups.  Now it’s dominated by pop and hip hop which is fine too but no one is going to watch a Pavement or At the Drive In reunion at Coachella anymore.  That’s sad but it is what it is.  We got old :lol:

    There are so many now. I'm really curious how these things all sell. When does it peak?

    For example, I get the sense Boston Calling is having a rough time this year. First, early bird tix didn't sell out. So they extended it and still didn't. A few weeks later I get a survey invite as a past attendee - why am I not going, what I think of the lineup, who my favorite bands are, etc. Then last week I get invited to a focus group that's happening Wednesday to talk about "my experiences." Holy shit, don't you guys have to put on a 3-day festival in a month? And I've only been to 2 of those things!

    As  a person who has also been to that festival, BC has had a lack of talent compared to years passed. 2017 especially. Flatbush Zombies, Run The Jewels, Converge, Weezer, and Tool all in the same day.. probably one of the greatest days i've had at a festival ever. As has already been mentioned, most of those types of acts are now dominated by pop and rap stalwarts in the industry.

    I was able to watch ALOT of Woodstock '94 performances on my old Sears TV in black & white. It could scrabble PPV events with my cable subscription. Couldn't do it though for Woodstock '99.

    All of those bands mentioned above were at their peak when they did this.  CSN, Cocker, Dylan, Santana and Cliff are the only retros of that list.

    Something equivalent for that to happen this day and age would need Drake, Migos, Cardi B, 21 Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Bieber, Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Meek Mill, Ariana Grande, A boogie, J Cole, Maroon 5, Billie Ellish and some country acts to make it huge...

    So pretty much what everyone listens to today and not from 25 years ago.
