I don't know who the non-golfer Tom Watson is either.  And maybe he has a special brand of snowflake followers, but it's disheartening to see a bunch of people come on and call Buttigieg a sexist for critiquing a slogan.  I take back everything I've said about the double-standards; the left really are the snowflakes.
Don't apply one statement from one retired golfer, to 40% of the country...  I'm a Democrat and not a snowflake.  Are you either of those?
    It's not the golfer...

He has 36,000 followers...a lot but not tons.  Calls himself a journalist. Calls himself a liberal and clearly believes Hillary getting the nomination was a great moment in history to the point that bringing up the terrible results is wrong.  The question is, are the replies that agree with him symptomatic of the left; or at least the most steadfast Hillary-supporting left?  I  guess I don't know but I did not like seeing that.  There were a lot of people there that I assume don't like Trump that basically said "I won't vote for him" for something that I think would be a stretch to even call a minor gaffe.  Sometimes it seems like we take the "high road" by tearing our own down just so we don't look like the GOP letting Trump get away with everything. Again, the people who happened to respond?  Certainly not a cross-section.  I still feel it's concerning.  I never really thought Buttigieg was going to win the nomination anyway.  But he's persona non grata with some pro-Hillary folks.  Gillibrand is with much of the left for what she did to Franken.  Warren is with the middle for her ethnicity kerfuffle.  Meanwhile Trump just keeps on being worse than all of 'em combined and nobody cares.
Also bear in mind the misinformation campaigns we should come to expect at this point. I would bet money that at least some of the top ranked responses to that tweet are paid trolls, though unfortunately, none of us will ever know.
If folks haven’t yet, they really need to listen to the pod cast mickeyrat posted regarding troll farms.
There've been a few Democracy Now and Intercepted podcast episodes about this too and they're quite fascinating - I can try to find the episodes I listened to if you're interested in hearing them.
Yes, please. I’d like to hear more from different perspectives but the thing that strikes me was their ability to slice and dice the electorate to pit them against each other and the amount of time prior to the election that they began their efforts, 2013. Gee? Who else was in Russia in 2013? Hmmmmm.

How so? I guess I’d have to read Huff Post? I’m talking more about the twitterverse and reading the comments and memes and Instagram or website comments sections. How do you know those posts are from real folks of whatever persuasion? And it’s going to get far worse with doctored video, computer generated voice overs, etc. You better go see the candidates in person and then check to make sure it’s not a body double or automatron.

ReadHuffPo.  They have become Breitbart left with their hit jobs on Democrats that they feel like are insufficiently 'woke'.
Here was their lead yesterday..  https://www.huffpost.com/entry/beto-orourke-white-men-2020_n_5c90fe72e4b0d50545005fca
This was the lead from the other day  https://www.huffpost.com/entry/joe-biden-middle-class_n_5c8032d8e4b06ff26ba55799

What gives me hope is the comments section.  Whereas on Breitbart, as I"m sure you know, they compete to see who can say the craziest, racist thing, on HuffPo, a strong majority of the comments are highly critical of HuffPo and their design to divide Democrats and push their preferred candidates, usually Warren although there's a strong Bernie bent too.  They also time the articles to connect with key events.  For example the Biden hit job came the same day that some people close to Biden said they were sure he was going to run.  It's a total rag since Ariana sold it.  Plus the writing is amateurish.  It was good back in the day.

They sound a lot like Young Turks. I wouldn't call it dividing Democrats, but more standing up for true progressives.

TYT believes the  national networks, such as MSCNN , NYT and WaPo, favor corporate/establishment democrats, are very influenced by right wing media and are all very critical of true progressives.

Hmmmmm.

Why do you have to write a hit piece on white guys in one article and Joe Biden on the other to stick up for progressive principles?

Yes I feel super woke now.  How could I have been such a fool to not understand the value of blood smeared on one's face?  I was so repressed.

    I agree, it's counterproductive.

But the street runs both ways, lots of moderate Democrats are going after the more progressive wing. I'm sure our energy is better spent going after Trump, his administration and the GOP.

Yes there is. Here where we are still, in various subtle and not subtle ways ... and of course really heinously in certain other countries, where some women are still forced to leave their home and live in a shed or hut or whatever for the course of their periods.
But think about it... Women are still often judged in our society with the "she must be on the rag" thing, right? Surely everyone is at least aware of that part? And there are a LOT of men who would still absolutely refuse to buy tampons for a woman. Also, what you may not be so aware of for obvious reasons, is that a surprising number of men, yes in North America and Western Europe too, literally view the vagina as "filthy" because of periods. They think of them as dirty in both the literal and figurative senses. While they still expect blow jobs, they refuse to perform oral sex themselves for example, because they're "gross", mainly because of periods. Stuff like that.

Ask the women of Nepal. Or young girls who don’t have access to sanitary products in school or women in the workplace. Or congress who fought against lifting the sales or use tax on female sanitary products. Plenty of stigma still around.

I had to get tampons from the store for the wife and girls the other day. I had no idea what I was doing, so I went with an unsented variety  pack that contained , light, reg, and I believe heavy so as to cover all my bases. They said I did a good job.

Good work! Yeah, I have no problem conceptually with picking up some Tampons or whatever. No different than grabbing some toilet paper or shaving cream from the personal care aisles. But I'd also have trouble narrowing down the confusing number of choices when it comes to size, shape, applicator style, scent, brand, etc... As long as I was given a few specifics, it's just another personal care product at the grocery store.

But Halifax and PJSoul are right. I do think there is still a lot of stigma around this, for some reason. I'm sure it dates back to our wonderful puritanical roots.

Oh FFS, does EVERY DAMN THING have to be a social justice issue? There's whole movies and articles about systematically depriving women access to tampons???
I really miss the days when people just *woke* up to enjoy their lives, in whatever state their lives were in. I have oppression fatigue. I can't take one more thing I'm supposed to apologize for -- now I have to be sorry I've deprived someone of her tampons.
This is a campaign issue? The world is going to hell in a hand-basket, and we're debating tampons?

I think you really don't understand the issue at all if this is your attitude. Like, you must be missing a lot of information on the subject and why it's important and legitimate and necessary.
But if you feel this way in general, you should totally just "unplug" from current events for a while, perhaps. Just a friendly suggestion.

first: who said you have to apologize for anything?

women in non-first world countries can't get an education because they are forced to sit in a pool of their own blood in a shed for several days at a time because men don't want women who are menstruating around them.

and yes, if there is oppression, inequality, etc, the amount of issues we already have going on does not exclude others from being on that list.

Ok, so maybe apologize was not the correct word -- how about another thing to put on the long list of what's wrong in the world.
Yes, I'm informed enough to know that since "Biblical times" women have been segregated and banished from the world during their periods. Yes, I know it's still happening. I guess I would just include that specific example under the general category of women in many parts of the world being treated like crap.
You're right -- I do need a break for awhile. I came back here to delete my response but decided just to say -- I'm choosing not to participate in this discussion. Maybe when I come back people will be discussing the Democratic candidates.

It wasn't a real discussion.  Remember that someone posted the article from the social media personality who smeared blood as an example of how silly HuffPo is.

There has been plenty of discussion about democratic candidates. It’s on you to focus on that and not on a minor side issue mentioned today.

Seema to me that up until 11:35 today the discussion was about democratic candidates.

yeah, I find it really strange that guys have trouble buying feminine hygiene products. as jeff said, it's no different that toilet paper or kleenex.
Totally agree.  At the same time, I think grocery stores and pharmacies should only be frequented by women, so kind of a moot point.
