Right on, thanks for the good explanation! That totally could be possible, wouldn’t shock me. To me he doesn’t need to declare victory, he already did so by getting elected. As far as the wall, I think he’ll sign the bill to not shutdown the govt but then declare an emergency anyway to get the money. It’ll go through the courts of course, but I don’t think he cares, he knows he’ll get so props from his base by declaring the emergency he prob figures it’s worth it. I heard today that his approval numbers are now the highest they’ve ever been?! Not surprised again, when he gets people fired up with his rallies it only helps him, and the more resistance he gets, it seems to end up helping repubs somehow.mrussel1 said:

In the Trump universe, this means saying the same thing over and over to where it becomes common belief, even if not rooted in truth. So what I mean is that once he understood he was not going to get money to "build the wall", just this past week, he started saying "finish the wall, not build it because you all know we've already started building it". This is how he will declare victory to his supporters.

Because what happens south of the border matters. Plus, Team Trump Treason might ratchet up the tariffs to pay for it. But he really should build a wall around Arkansas as a pilot feasibility study first.RoleModelsinBlood31 said:

No, the approval numbers are not the highest they've ever been. Who was it that said that - Trump? The numbers fell a lot during the shutdown and rose a few points after he agreed to reopen the government, but still far from his highest ratings. Approval ranging from about 40.5 - 44%, disapproval about 55%.RoleModelsinBlood31 said:

Ha ha! Yes, if you ask Rush Limbaugh, you certainly get a different version.
Polls are only as good as the sample you poll.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0 -
Rasmussen is usually 5 points more generous to Republicans than any other poll, due to their sampling. He definitely got a bump from the state of the union, which is common. He'll definitely do something dumb to tear that back down soon enough though. Here's a good summary of polls. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?ex_cid=rrpromoRoleModelsinBlood31 said:

I think you're right on declaring the emergency. I felt that was the only way out from the beginning for him. It will be stopped by the courts, based on on precedent and the fact that Congress is responsible for appropriating. It really is a violation of the separation clauses. But I don't think he cares if it gets caught up in court or if the wall ever is actually built.0 -
He just needs to look like a fighter... he doesn't believe in a fucking wall, the idea was brought to him before the primaries as a way to separate himself from the others, it got good traction on twitter, and they ran with it

I heard today that his approval numbers are now the highest they’ve ever been?! Not surprised again, when he gets people fired up with his rallies it only helps him, and the more resistance he gets, it seems to end up helping repubs somehow.mrussel1 said:
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation that seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity...RoleModelsinBlood31 said:
I don’t even know what that means, man!mrussel1 said:
It's gaslighting so he can declare victory. You know this.RoleModelsinBlood31 said:
No, George W’s and Obama’s admins built 600 miles or so of fencing/wall. I assume that’s what he’s talking about. Under trump they’ve built some/added to it already also, so therefore the “finish the wall” statements.OnWis97 said:So he is now talking as if some of the wall has been built. Did I miss something or his he just feeding a pile of shit to a base that will eat it up?
In the Trump universe, this means saying the same thing over and over to where it becomes common belief, even if not rooted in truth. So what I mean is that once he understood he was not going to get money to "build the wall", just this past week, he started saying "finish the wall, not build it because you all know we've already started building it". This is how he will declare victory to his supporters.

I think you're right on declaring the emergency. I felt that was the only way out from the beginning for him. It will be stopped by the courts, based on on precedent and the fact that Congress is responsible for appropriating. It really is a violation of the separation clauses. But I don't think he cares if it gets caught up in court or if the wall ever is actually built.0 -
so sad he has any support. A traffic cone should be able to run against Trump and win in a landslide.Post edited by Smellyman on0

Cincy brought up a really good point in one of these threads recently: highly educated people are not reproducing as much as simple folk are.Smellyman said:so sad he has any support. A traffic cone should be able to run against Trump and win in a landslide.
There’s an inherent problem with that situation when it presents itself in a democracy and I don’t need to spell out what it is.
If you pander to the religious groups (anti-abortion), satisfy the racists (walls... tell them they are cool), cozy up to the NRA, and spark the imagination of the dumb folk (MAGA)... you’ve managed to encapsulate a big chunk of people.
Just maybe a bigger chunk that can be overcome with good sensibility.
I’m growing pessimistic. That f**king idiot might be around for longer than anyone with half a brain or remote sense of decency might possibly have imagined."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

If I listened to everything my grandparents said, I never would have voted for Obama. As future generations age, the idea of 'white' America will dissipate and the xenophobic message of the Republicans will become a relic. I hope.0 -
