  • I watched it before I went to bed last night. Big mistake. I lied there hoping that if my son was ever near such an incident- he'd kick that shithead's ass.

At the end of the clip, you can hear some young lady rushing in and swearing at the oaf. There's more good than bad, but holy Christ... the bad sure feels like they've got a legitimate voice these days- that their perspective is one worthy of not only protecting, but asserting.

These incidents are not diminishing as I thought they might. The rats aren't scurrying when something bigger comes their way.
I am still not quick to say that it's happening more now but that people actually documenting it better.  People are dumb enough to film their stupidity now fearing no repercussions.  It's out there for everyone to see now where it was maybe reported in the past at best.

I don't understand how someone can do that to an individual...
I'm on the fence about this too. To me it COULD be the same as people thinking there's a pedophile on every corner only because of the news, when in reality crime has gone down over the last few decades.

Of course, I'm sure if there had been neo-nazi marches that ended in the death of someone during Obama's tenure, it obviously still would have been news; I'm referring to the day to day hate that we are seeing in media/social media.

I'm not on the fence at all. I think we weren't witnessing neo-Nazi marches en masse and small scale violent acts towards minorities prior to this recent era because in the past (and for the most part) those people skulked in the dark. For whatever reason, that movement has become emboldened and now at least seems to display a propensity for public displays.

When they were in the shadows lurking... their impact wasn't truly felt. Out in the light, the movement has managed to affect people and not only that... invite more demonstration given its increasing frequency and support.
as I said, I wasn't referring to the marches like that. I'm talking day to day interactions. since I don't generally watch the news or read the paper, all I see is the constant outrage on social media, which is often magnified for dramatic effect, facts are skewed, or is downright false.

I do lean to the side of what you are saying, that these fools feel emboldened and have come out of the shadows. I'm just not certain that the perception matches the reality.

The reality likely rests somewhere in between. It's hard for people like you and I to sift through what we are fed and determine exactly what the reality is for anything these days.

I don't see anything remotely close to that behaviour in my area. I can't even recall when someone has been mistreated because of race or even sexual orientation in my area. If this behaviour manifested itself, I'm pretty confident it would be dealt with in the moment by whoever was there.

Come to think of it, my wife is a letter carrier and came across a scene where an old man was saying stuff to a young lady at the bus stop. She came to the young woman's defence and ultimately stayed with her until the bus picked her up. When she got back to her depot, she reported the incident to her supervisors who took steps to escalate the response (I don't know what resulted).

Sooo... I guess we do have our share of bigoted assholes, but we have overwhelmingly way more good people than bad and the majority doesn't play nicely with the losers. Their values and opinions aren't respected at all because there aren't two sides to this equation: there's the 'right' side and the wrong side.

Yea, but look at Mississippi. Pretty fucked that a candidate for senate can publically claim she'd be in the front row of a public hanging and still get elected. In the 21st Century. So, I'll ask again, what do we call these people who support Team Trump Treason and the candidates that he "embraces" or support the candidates that "embrace" him?

I'm not Jewish so it will be hard to be like that...  I have no idea what you mean "don't be like this"?

    *Whoosh* ;)
It basically meant "don't ignore all the obvious warning signs until it's too late". (jokingly as far as your position is concerned, but that message isn't a joke in general. I think many Americans are doing exactly that - many are stuck in the "it can never happen to us" mindset. Too much faith in those so-called "checks and balances", you know?).

Holy fuck, since when could you not take a joke at any level, or not distinguish between analogous and literal statements? And how do you think that Americans pretending that everything is okay when it isn't is not happening? Or that saying that is saying that the sky is falling? And btw, this "sky isn't falling" line is what's ridiculous.
(and FWIW, I bet a ton of Jews said "the sky isn't falling" during the 30s. Seriously)

You saw worse than waterboarding in 4th grade? WTF school did you attend? Worst thing I saw was more of a power situation (social ostracizing, name calling, rumor crap) not physical harm. The psychological trauma was more the norm.
    It's a hopeless situation...

He poured water in his face and mouth... he wasnt strapped down with a rag stuffed in his mouth to simulate drowning,  which is water boarding.

Im not defending the bully, i hate that shit, but c'mon. You guys act like this hasnt been going on with kids forever, in every school, with every ethnicity.

This is the problem today, one stupid video goes viral and people think it defines the world and is proof of some epidemic.

Just don't be like this Tempo! ... ;) but kinda serious too actually. This is one of the more apt Onion articles, and no, not because of the Nazi comparison, lol!

That's exactly what I thought you meant which is ridiculous.

    The sky isn't falling...
Seriously)
I still don't get the joke, sorry...

America has never been "okay".  I see what goes on.  Bad thing is it's always been going on and people forget that...It's the reason I started listening to punk and reading The Nation.  Because everything isn't okay.

My new line for any of you that think the world is ending is "The sky isn't falling".

They were a bunch of psychopaths, and war criminals... Obama administration came in to power and decided to turn their head and refused to investigate let alone prosecute... they dropped the ball purposely...when the crew before you authorizes war crimes, its your responsibility to fucking do something about it, even if its not politically convenient... like i said, talk to Obama
