If politicians spent half as much time trying to actually solve problems and make people's lives better rather than attention seeking stunts, the country would be a lot better off.

So - taking the political theater out of it....why not send to sanctuary cities?  They've stated they have no issue with it and it's the border states that get to deal with this every day?

There has to be a better way then what we are doing and what some others want to do.

New caravan is moving towards the US in part of the Summit meeting with President Biden.  The migrants want Biden to change the current executive order on immigration.

I live in austin, 45 minutes north of SA, it has been triple digits for about three weeks.

I agree that the fact these people are knowingly taking the risk to come to America speaks volumes as to what they must be fleeing., Drivers are scumbags as well as the smugglers and those in the US who demonize immigrants.

With all the money we throw around the world it is hard to understand why we don't try to do more for our closest neighbors to the south and what those dividends would pay for a stronger and more secure North America

After reading some of the interviews with the parents who lost kids I can’t help but to think unrealistic expectations are a contributing factor in all this.

two sons had a plan to make money and send it to their mother so she could buy a house.  I don’t know anyone working the kinds of jobs that you can get with no documentation buying houses for anyone.

I’m not anti immigration at all. I’m supportive of it. I also think the narrative this is a land of opportunity for anyone other than the top class is outdated and incorrect.  This is one instance where our reputation as a country is no longer true.  People believe in the idea not the reality.  No way it’s worth the kind of danger they are putting themselves in

I would bet the people coming here would disagree.  A cell phone, big screen tv and roof is probably light years better than what they are escaping.

I don’t think it works out how they think for an economic migrant.  I can drive past 50 right now sitting at a bus stop down the street, waiting for some contractor to hire them for the day. I’m sure when someone hires them it’s a fraction of what they should be paid. Then they have to pay to live here and still send money home.  That’s not possible working full time at minimum wage and they probably don’t even make that.

if it’s a fleeing for your life situation then yeah maybe it’s worth it

It’s not uncommon for part of a family to travel here and send money back. Now I doubt it’s enough to buy a house, and I’m sure they are just scraping by here. But they do it.

That’s not possible working full time at minimum wage and they probably don’t even make that.

if it’s a fleeing for your life situation then yeah maybe it’s worth it
They make 150-200 a day.  They don't get paid $7 an hr.  They can do quite well.

Mexico agrees to invest $1.5B in 'smart' border technology

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador agreed to spend $1.5 billion to improve “smart” border technology during meetings Tuesday with President Joe Biden — a move the White House says shows neighborly cooperation succeeding where Trump administration vows to wall off the border and have Mexico pay for it could not.

A person familiar with a series of agreements the two countries hammered out as their leaders met in Washington said they also called for other things like expanding the number of work visas the U.S. issues and welcoming more refugees. They also would continue joint patrols for Mexico and Guatemala to hunt human smugglers along their shared border.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement hadn’t been formally announced. But the Biden administration was excited about securing border funding from Mexico after years of failed attempts by former President Donald Trump.

    continues....

I feel that the people that had to wait and wait to be here legally are being slapped in the face by those who don't think the law applies to them. I feel that there's a very good reason why there should be a vetting process.

There isn’t really a legal way to come here from Mexico or Central America for most people. employment, family reunification, and humanitarian protection are basically the avenues.  So if I wanted to move to Mexico and those were the only ways I could do it, I wouldn’t qualify.  I don’t already have an employer who’s paying for it and sponsoring me, I have no family there, and I’m not fleeing for my safety.

You cannot seek a new life in America.  You have to have that new life lined up first somehow before you come.  Unless you are a high wage skilled worker most employers aren’t sponsoring visas.

Migrant worker visas to work on farms are temporary so not immigration

Mexican  citizens are not eligible for the green card lottery either.  Countries that qualify for that, yes you wait and wait and sometimes you win the lottery

vetting is one thing, sure vet them.  However it should be easier to do it legally.  These people would much rather be here legally so let’s give them a way to do it.
