At the end of the clip, you can hear some young lady rushing in and swearing at the oaf. There's more good than bad, but holy Christ... the bad sure feels like they've got a legitimate voice these days- that their perspective is one worthy of not only protecting, but asserting.
These incidents are not diminishing as I thought they might. The rats aren't scurrying when something bigger comes their way.
I am still not quick to say that it's happening more now but that people actually documenting it better. People are dumb enough to film their stupidity now fearing no repercussions. It's out there for everyone to see now where it was maybe reported in the past at best.
I don't understand how someone can do that to an individual...

Of course, I'm sure if there had been neo-nazi marches that ended in the death of someone during Obama's tenure, it obviously still would have been news; I'm referring to the day to day hate that we are seeing in media/social media.
I'm not on the fence at all. I think we weren't witnessing neo-Nazi marches en masse and small scale violent acts towards minorities prior to this recent era because in the past (and for the most part) those people skulked in the dark. For whatever reason, that movement has become emboldened and now at least seems to display a propensity for public displays.
When they were in the shadows lurking... their impact wasn't truly felt. Out in the light, the movement has managed to affect people and not only that... invite more demonstration given its increasing frequency and support.
as I said, I wasn't referring to the marches like that. I'm talking day to day interactions. since I don't generally watch the news or read the paper, all I see is the constant outrage on social media, which is often magnified for dramatic effect, facts are skewed, or is downright false.
I do lean to the side of what you are saying, that these fools feel emboldened and have come out of the shadows. I'm just not certain that the perception matches the reality.
The reality likely rests somewhere in between. It's hard for people like you and I to sift through what we are fed and determine exactly what the reality is for anything these days.
I don't see anything remotely close to that behaviour in my area. I can't even recall when someone has been mistreated because of race or even sexual orientation in my area. If this behaviour manifested itself, I'm pretty confident it would be dealt with in the moment by whoever was there.
Come to think of it, my wife is a letter carrier and came across a scene where an old man was saying stuff to a young lady at the bus stop. She came to the young woman's defence and ultimately stayed with her until the bus picked her up. When she got back to her depot, she reported the incident to her supervisors who took steps to escalate the response (I don't know what resulted).
Sooo... I guess we do have our share of bigoted assholes, but we have overwhelmingly way more good people than bad and the majority doesn't play nicely with the losers. Their values and opinions aren't respected at all because there aren't two sides to this equation: there's the 'right' side and the wrong side.
