    Do you ever try consuming news that isn't CNN or whatever? You act like that's the only news available, and that it's ALL inaccurate or irrelevant. :confused: Obviously that is not true.     I asked to not shoot the messenger. I've said before most  people view the news for entertainment and my team vs your team. I do not think people are drooling morons, I just think they are human

    Also, considering the majority of my country gets its news from the few major outlets and channels, doesnt matter much where I get my news. But, I used to flip between them all... cnn, MSNBC, fox for fun... BBC is ok but I prefer PBS Newshour, still try to watch that when I can... listen to NPR in the car... print i tend to prefer the post & times... big fan of harpers magazine who I think brings the real stories in depth (they are legit)... love Zinn and his style (RIP)... also a fan of Chomsky but definitely preferred Zinn... used to watch Bill Maher but he is far too one-sided, but I think that's still a good political discussion show... I've also been known to enjoy MTP on Sunday mornings when I can

    I guess I have never kept track on the percentage of our "news" that is entertainment as opposed to deep content so I can't factually argue one way or another on the current trends, but I do think the entertainment news has been elevated to a more substantial part of the common person's news feed because of technology. The whole "trending" news articles drives what gets views and rises to the top for a brief period, but it's not like it is the only content or what is being pushed. I think entertainment news has managed to infiltrate more media outlets than in the past because they know there is a demand for it and since they already provide content, why not expand it while still maintaining the critical issue pieces they were already focusing on.

    If all I wanted was trash news, I can find that, but I don't so I focus on the real world shit that matters. I may occasionally enjoy to read some mindless drivel that means little, but I think we all need a bit of that in order to maintain our sanity.

    Well like I said before, this whole forum is pretty based on what we see in the news, so I'm not sure why your main theme is, apparently, trying to convince everyone to stop that. You're fighting a losing battle, lol. Also, you're really not saying anything that all of us aren't cognizant of, and deal with in our own ways. You're just finding new ways to express that you can't personally handle consuming the news these days. Or that's what it seems like anyway.

    The thing is, even if that is their ONLY motivation, which I don't believe at all - those people are real reporters you know - but agree revenue is one of their main motivations, that doesn't at all mean that the vast majority of the factual news they report isn't accurate or that they are reporting fake news. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. And all you have to do is look at the fact check stats to know exactly how accurate each network is (of course FOX is a different story. CNN, et al, are not comparable to FOX. But even FOX reports real shit sometimes). I have a degree in Communications, so I do have at least some idea about how the news works, or at least like to think so.

    Again, profit and accurate news is not mutually exclusive. Nor are reporting accurately and not covering everything you or I feel should get more attention ... Dude, at this point I feel like you're just ignoring every point I'm making.
    I do agree nobody should ONLY watch CNN or whatever other American news network... Remember that the rest of the world exists out there, lol.
    And FWIW, I think that whole Kanye at the WH thing was actually important news in its own right because of what it said about the leaders of the nations, but agree these networks should have a lot more variety, because each hour segment, with different hosts, tend to focus on the same story. They should all be made to focus on a different story each day, so you don't get 3 straight hours of the same. But in any case, either way, it's not fake news.
    Again, I think we all get it. You assume everyone is only consuming news from the major American news networks and you don't like it. Got it. Let's move on.
