For example? I don't understand why. I'm talking about hundreds of different sources. But okay... Obviously Canadian news, both local and national, BBC, Al Jazeera, probably a couple dozen English language newspapers from around the Globe (i.e. out of Britain, Africa, Europe, Asia, along with the NYT, WaPo, WSJ, etc), international local English language news reports and editorials shared by friends from different cities around the world .... and so on.my2hands said:For example? I find MSNBC hard to take at times, but Maddow gets it: you can follow video clips of outrageous statements with a disclaimer, but with many people, the original nonsense is what will stick. Kind of like watching a car crash....The other day, our fearless leader announced that he was going to enact a big tax cut for the middle class, before the elections. He can't do this. That's Congress's job, and they're on recess until after the elections. But that didn't stop Agent Orange from going on and on about it. AND -- most news outlets ran the story with a headline like "T---- proposes ten-percent tax cut for middle class."The thing is, many, many people read ONLY the headlines on news stories. So even if the story beneath the headline says, well, actually, he can't do that, and, besides, Congress is out until after the elections, the takeaway for lots of people will be "Yay, another tax cut!" Framing matters. Headlines on those articles should have been: "Nearly two years into his job, President T---- still doesn't understand how the government works." But no --So, yeah, I quit watching CNN when I saw that they had Corey Lewandowski on payroll. And, yes, as much as many individuals working in the media do excellent work (someone buy Daniel Dale a drink! He fact-checks AO's rally speeches on the fly, poor guy), the media companies are thinking about their bottom lines, so we get endless coverage of Kanye West, Horseface, Mushroom Dick, instead of more in-depth stories about boring stuff that's going to kill us, like climate change. /sSo I try to stick with outlets that I know will present more substantial coverage -- The Atlantic and the Guardian. And we ALL need to read everything with our critical thinking skills fully engaged. So many people, from all parts of the political spectrum, just don't do that.All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.0
