Yup.
Unfortunately, back in non-quippy land, immigrants are less likely to kill you than the average American, while gun owners are more likely to kill you than the average American.
And I believe the issue is those who immigrate illegally, not all immigrants. It doesn’t matter what the rate of violence is within illegal immigrants, as it should be zero since they should not be here in the first place. 1000 crimes from illegal immigrants is 1000 more crimes than there should be in the US.

yes, I know. but those that are on trump's side of immigration policies is that one murder by an illegal immigrant is too many and saying you are more likely to be murdered by an american is a red herring. just like when gun control opponents use the "you are more likely to be killed by a car than a gun" and we call that a red herring.oftenreading said:HughFreakingDillon said:

I'm not saying I agree with them, but I can see their point.
I can say "policy should not be driven by fear" all I want, but then that should be across the board, not just on issues I pick and choose. because let's face it, gun control proponents (such as myself) are driven by, primarily, fear. call it safety. call it empathy for the families. but the root of all that is fear. fear of being killed by something that should be controllable.Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer0 -

there are approximately 17,000 murders annually in the USA, how many victims can you name?

National before she was found.National means relating to the whole of a country or nation rather than to part of it or to other nations.while yes this story was showed in Philly, it was a local news station in philly. what that means is that the only people who saw that report were people in Philly. now if was CBS news and hence seen by everyone in the country then yes I would consider that national news.
Although ill I’ll admit I don’t live everywhere so I’m sure there are some places that maybe didn’t get a sniff of it. But it was pretty broadly shared. Good question. As I have lived in Iowa and still have friends I heard about it though them first. Mostly started as worried about human trafficking in the area along I-80. Then since she was missing and not found it usually makes an interesting story. I’m certain her being a Midwest, white, attractive college girl helped.HughFreakingDillon said:

Easy answer...ratings. The media only publishes stories that they believe their target audience will be interested in. What is the target audience’s demographics for the particular stations that covered it first?cincybearcat said:

I guess that's what I was wondering, if the story was circulated as there was an inkling as to who the suspect may have been. But that's pure speculation on my part.cincybearcat said:
