    I read this last night before bed. Then went to Reddit and read some of that.

    A horrific story.

    Brutal. It's an accusation (from an anonymous twitter account) and one must be careful not to throw stones before some kind of proof... but for the moment I'm not looking favourably at the weirdo to say the least.

    Ambivalent is the best description for how I feel after having read the claim. I don't want to shame a potential victim by trying to poke holes in the story, but I'm also hesitant to accept at face value a single anonymous claim on twitter.


    I don't feel like there's enough info to make a decision one way or the other right now. I hope more info comes out & sheds some light on this.

    It looks like another account was created within an hour of the one accusing Maynard, and this second account accused Trent Reznor of rape.

    Earlier this week, Maynard James Keenan—the lead singer of Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer—was accused of raping a woman when she was 17 years old and giving her a sexually transmitted infection. On June 22, the Twitter user @IWas17HeWas36recounted an alleged incident that she says occurred in 2000 when A Perfect Circle were on tour with Nine Inch Nails. Keenan was 36 years old.

    Today, Keenan responded to the allegations in a tweet, writing, “Many thanks to those of you who saw right through this despicable false claim that only does damage to the #metoo movement. And shame on those of you who perpetuate this destructive clickbait. As for my delayed but un-required response, I had my phone off. You should try it.”

    This has been a very serious and crazy event. I'm relieved...but there's a part of me that has been affected and hasn't quite released the possibility that there is a victim (yes... I've seen the circumstantial evidence).

    It goes to show you how damaging a false rape accusation can be.

    There are screenshots floating around of a supposed conversation on 4Chan where people are talking about making accusations against other rock & roll celebrities just for the f of it  – Dave Grohl & Mike Patton are 2 names I recall  (one jackass went so far as to say Patton deserved it for talking shit about Wolfmother…… the f is wrong with people?)


    I feel reasonably confident that the whole thing is bs.

    If Maynard truly forced himself on someone, underage or not, hang him high. Sounds like bs to me at this point though. I think some of these situations are the product of re-remembering things in a different light years later, based on experiences of others. Not everybody is a victim.

    Not to dismiss scumbag behavior, but a person has to be smarter or less naive than to head backstage after theyre told “no your boyfriend can’t come”, just for the chance to meet somebody famous. Dickheads should be punished, but people need to have accountability for themselves as well.

    I agree that if there is truth to these allegations... Maynard can rot in Hell. I also agree with your second passage: I don't see it as victim blaming either.

    You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know why you're being summoned to the tour bus- without your boyfriend who is told he's not welcome.

    As should any site that reported on it including his name without any evidence, for exactly the reason @Thirty Bills Unpaid described.

    A big issue in our society is defemation.  IF Maynard is innocent an accusation like this can ruin one’s career.  It happens in ALL industries.  Unfortunately our first amendment allows for this.  Even if Maynard sues this person and wins...a google search tomorrow and 10 years from now will continue to claim Maynard raped a fan. What if or maybe Maynard does have children or grandchildren, his reputation is pretty much tarnished.  Most other first world, democratic countries allow the removal of defamatory remarks with the simple filing of an application but not our World Wide Web!  Hopefully, a liar is gonna have to pay a price and maybe that will urge people to be more responsible in all parts of life even something trivial we take for granted like a click of a mouse.
