I don't think I see what the difference between really getting into a hockey series and really getting into an album is, except that that particular hockey series was infinitely more dramatic and exciting and emotionally charged for everyone. Damn rgambs, I've never seen this side of you before, lol.

I really had no idea so many have such a negative vibe on the "U-S-A" chant. I don;t go to political rallies or things like that, so my experience has always been when something positive happens, never to shut someone down. And, orobably equally as often, just being silly and sarcastic just to be funny. Like winning the lowest division adult softball league, while having a few beers during the game, chanting USA when you win the last game of the season. Thats what I associate that chant with, not Bush's speech, or trying to shut others down. Mostly cheering for your olympic team, cheering during an air show, or trying to dare your drunk friend to do something stupid.
Well the politically charged, war-related, chest-beating, uninformed context is the only time the rest of the world ever sees it done, so everyone outside of America tends to connects it to that. So if they happen to see it done at a football game or something while visiting the US or whatever, that is still how they're going to take it in essence. It will be viewed as low brow and obnoxious at best - a "tradition" rooted in blind nationalism. In any case, whenever it's done so that people outside of America actually see it on the news, it's definitely not doing Americans any favours in terms of international reputation.

Art and sport don't even come close to belonging in the same league, to use some sports talk.

I've been through this argument with most of the sports fans on here so there's no need to rehash.
It's been unanimously decided that I'm an arrogant fuck and I've agreed and I'm ok with that lol

I have done some amazing shit in my life so far, I can think of some amazing high points and epic fun times...summiting the Kemacher, opening my Sega Genesis of Xmas morning, rappelling 876 feet from the New River Gorge Bridge at 18, conceiving my son, the first time I ate mushrooms with my wife and best friend, every single hug from my boy, that's not even a scratch in surface of course, but I can honestly say that not a damn one of the high point funnest times was spent in front of a TV!
I'd be sad to have to admit that to myself if it were true.  If that makes me an arrogant prick, I can handle it.

Edit to add that meaningless was a very poor choice of words.
Anything that means something to a person is not meaningless by definition, obviously.
I'm not going to bother thinking of a better word as it wasn't my intention to insult Dankind, but that's what happens when you're an arrogant fuck lol

They booed because Eddie spoke his views in a very disrespectful way.  They could have played the song and said a few words, but I think the GW mask was over the top and very disrespectful when considering they were playing NYC where the wounds were still raw.  THey deserved to be booed not because they were wrong (they were right), but in the disrespectful way they presented their views.
So talk nicely about GW? Because he's the president and all?

He got booed by a bunch of people who blindly followed their leader just as they blindly followed their faith.

He was a turd. An imbecile who was responsible for countless innocent lives. He got more respect than he deserved that night.

I'm not saying the crowd wouldn't have booed if he was just talking about Bush and why he thought the war was wrong, but my theory is that it wouldn't have gone down so bad if he didn't wear the mask and do his little routine.

I'm not comparing Bush to Jesus or anything, but if you want to disagree verbally that Jesus existed with a Christian most will politely disagree or just tolerate you.  If you dress up as Jesus and mockingly do something, you might generate a more angry response.  That's all I'm saying.

    And you wouldn't be wrong.

I guess I'm saying (or trying to say) when he pulled his stunt... he didn't truly care how Bush supporters were going to receive it.

  • Play your music, fairly simple concept of a concert.

    Dance monkey.

Just don't hurt my ignorant feelings.
  • They booed because he was talking / lecturing.  It's that simple. If we pay $100 for a music concert we want to here music.

We can hear our parents lecture us for free.

When they played Toronto in 2016 and Ed was heaping praise on Justin Trudeau, I did the same thing I did when Trudeau took the stage at last year’s Canada Day (well, the next day): I quietly stood there and didn’t applaud.

In 2016, 2 nights later when Ed “wished death” on an old, decrepit racist in Florida, I did applaud the (hopefully eventual) death of the racist ideals, if not that specific individual.

I don’t mind a bit of political or philosophical discussion from an entertainer, even if I don’t agree with them. What does piss me off is when I’m told I can’t be a fan of a band (or whatever) because I don’t always agree with their politics. In the same way that I’m allowed to interpret a song differently from its creator’s original intent, I suppose.

    Sing, Sing. Sing

It's 'hear' (like you spelled correctly in your second sentence).

And the spotlight can be used to initiate change. Using the moment to spread the word which the people who booed had not yet received the word is an artist's prerogative.

If people think artists like Eddie Vedder aren't going to sound off when the mood hits them... they fail to appreciate the motivation behind most- if not all- of their writing. Taking it one step further... they fail to understand the meaningful link between the artist's passions and the songs they write. These artists don't turn it off and become autotrons so simpletons can hear them Sing, Sing. Sing

It is a fine line with wanting to push your agenda and wanting to piss off people that paid to see you play music.
