Great job on the podcast guys! Keep up the good work. I have enjoyed the first couple and can't wait to listen to the rest.

Thanks. Hope you like them all!

Considering Episode 5: I sort of agree that the last three songs don't necessarily fit with rest of the album but I don't think LTRP would be a good closer. I think they should of kept one of them (Yellow Moon, imho) and dropped the other two.

True. Yellow Moon is definitely the "best" of those last three. I'd love to hear some outtakes!

Got a lump in my throat listening to Brad talk about Release and what it now means to him @ the end of episode 2.
    Sorry, man.
Unfortunately, welcome to the club.  It gets easier and even the things that hurt make you smile.
You guys love this music, that is certainly evident!

Thank you, I've been trying to think of all the good times I had with my dad. There's a lot of them!
Just checked out the introduction. Sounds good so far. Thank you all! Can't wait to check out the rest.

    Thank you. Enjoy!

Nice show - although I was surprised when it ended (seemed short!). However, I appreciate how you didn't get too much into Stone's personal life - it's really none of our business, is it? - and focused on what he's written.

Cornell's death hit me in a similar way that it hit the two of you. Although I (obviously) don't know him personally, I was surprised/upset that he went at the time he did. Cobain's suicide seemed inevitable but not this one. I wrongly assumed that once you reach a certain age that you're out of the woods with this kind of stuff.

Non-musician Brad. Need an answer to the question "Why do like Hail Hail?" BECAUSE IT ABSOLUTELY ROCKS AND MAKES ME FEEL GREAT EVERY TIME I HEAR IT!

PS. Thanks for the Game of Thrones Sound byte!

Listening to Stone episode now. Sounding good guys.
Funny hearing you mentioned the "grunge family tree". I did that with my peeps in school too. We would draw a massive network diagram on the blackboard in the study room at school. The evolution out of the eighties is one of the best things about this band.

    Stay gold.

Haha, were still trying to figure out a good length for the show. We've heard from both sides, some say it's too long, some say it's short. I feel like we could talk for 3 hours sometimes so we're still trying to figure it out.

Now that’s how you cover an album. Nice work guys. Without claiming to be the official knowledge base you still bring a great perspective. Was a great listen.

Another solid episode - I love that album (Vitalogy). I usually consider myself a "Ten/Vs man" but when you consider all of those epic tracks on the album, it really is right up there with those other two.

Regarding the "non-songs" (as I like to call them): I think including four of them was a bit excessive. I agree that "Stupid Mop" is silly and should have been omitted. I think you'll disagree with me on this one, but I think "Bugs" should have also been left off and maybe just used as a b-side. Bugs sort of falls in the same category as "Sweet Lou" for me - which I don't even think made it to b-side status.

One final thought: I love that montage of music that you've put together to start your show - full of rockin' tunes! However, I notice that's really the only time you use sound clips of songs within your show? Is this intentional? Are there copyright issues if you play even parts of songs?

I've a decidedly different take on Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me and overall the tracking and inclusion of  the  extra tracks.
On the original vinyl, side A (division 1 as it is labeled) is all music, the flip is quite obviously all not.

Pry To leads into Corduroy, and the playing of Pry To backwards reveals the garbling to be a hidden message from Vedder (people dispute this, it really is not disputable if you do it at a correct speed.)  Townshend was also notoriously burdened with being the messiah of Who fans early on and more so the press trying to get into his personal business.  On more than a few occasions Ed alluded to this and on a couple occasions, one time very specifically with the words to the non-album Who song "I Don't Even Know Myself" (eventually released on the compilation Who's Missing and much later as a bonus track to the Who's Next re-issues).

The tie-in of Pry, To to Corduroy is implicit and very calculated.   The transition to Bugs seems very intentional in this spot as well, sandwiching Corduroy, the tongue in cheek nature and the absurdity of the accordion shine a self deprecating light on the perception problem that people could not understand on the push back against the tug of war of fame.

I also very much get the sense that Satans' Bed and Aye Davinita very intentionally bookend Betterman, a song that Vedder wrestled with letting out of the barn for a long while.

Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me, is often seen as throw away avant-garde noise, but if you see Vitalogy as the reference to the book from which it takes its creative cue or simply the latin root meaning of vita and logy, the final track sums up the chaos and confusion of fame and unrelenting pressure to be and deliver something you can't possibly provide to anyone.

I don't think it is happenstance that this collection of music as originally released had a complete side A of music followed by a side B of music and carefully placed interspersed sound buffers, culminating with the tapes of people who were in an asylum following the ethereal Immortality.  It is a concept album, the study of our crazy life surrounded by the maddening artificial constructs and demands of those who don't know us. Side B is the descent into madness.

Great episodes about Wrigley! What a nice (Canadian) Thanksgiving surprise when I went to get my weekly download and saw that there was a bonus episode waiting for me.

About Let's Play 2, the album: It sounds great but I've wondered whether the band should have used this release as an opportunity to put out a "Greatest Hits" live compilation. I know. I know. It's not what us "hard core" fans would likely want. However, the full shows are being released next month and a "hits" option might release reach a wider audience. I also think that's why they had the tracks on the album fade in/out (as opposed to sounding like a continuous show) to appease casual fans who might want to grab only a few songs off iTunes.

About Let's Play 2, the movie: Haven't seen it yet but hope to do so this weekend. Nice summary - and don't worry about spoilers. It's not the type of movie that can be ruined by revealing too much. It's not like you blurted out about Han Solo getting "offed" by his own son in a recent Star Wars movie.

About opening tracks: You mentioned that if they are going to open with a slow song, you prefer hearing only Long Road, Release, and Oceans. I agree - and too think Low Light is a peculiar choice to start off a concert. However, as a "No-Code-At-The-Top-Of-Your-List" kind of dude, I'm surprised that you didn't add "Sometimes" to your list. I'm sure you'll agree that it's right up there with the other three.

    Stay cool!

Matt  (I wish "rummy" wasn't my username anymore).

Agree that Lowlight was an interesting choice for opening night 1, especially in front of Release. It definitely has a more melancholy feel than a song with a building progression like Long Road or Can't Keep for example. Maybe Ed was just trying to give Chicago something different. In Boston, I think they played Lowlight because it fit the moment as the sun was setting over Fenway. I wasn't at Wrigley, but maybe Eddie didn't want to miss that beautiful moment.

    Brads,

Not sure how the ratings and review system works on iTunes. Have tried a few times now to leave you stars with a review, but nothing indicates it was accepted. I press send and nothing happens.

Anyway, keep up the good work. We love you regardless of what everyone says.

Also learned a few things that I didn't know yet. Keep up the great work guys, I'll be listening as long as you put up episodes!

I had forgotten how great Oceans is live until I listened to the intro to your show this week. Such an underrated tune - if it is possible for a Ten song to be classified as such.

Re. "my" show in NZ in 1998. I'd be lying if I said that I flew all the way out there just to see them. In truth, I went out there to work for a year after I graduated and happened to catch them when they came to Auckland. Although I was never that big of a concert-goer (money was often tight) I'd always wanted to see them and finally had a great opportunity to do so. It was fantastic, by the way..

I'm ashamed to say, however, that I didn't see them again for 13 years. I guess none of my friends back home in Canada really liked the band (I know, why was I even friends with these people???) so I always just shrugged it off. Fortunately, I convinced someone to go with  me to one of the Toronto 2011 shows and it, in a very strange way, was life changing. I was for sure the best concert I'd ever seen and I've been addicted to PJ bootlegs ever since.

Admittedly, my relatively young kids keep me from travelling too far to see their shows (maybe that'll change one day....one day) but I will break any engagement to see them when they come to the Toronto area. In fact, I won't make any major commitments until I know for sure that they are NOT coming to town.

(Thanks for reading some/many of my previous posts on earlier episodes but there's absolutely no need to read the about thoughts of mine on air. Just thought I'd answer your question.)

    Final thought:
Unfortunately, there's no way in hell Han Solo is still alive! Think about it: The dude was gored by a lightsaber....then fell off a bridge, plummeting a very long way to the ground (or what ever was down there) below - he'd never survey the impact of that fall...and if that wasn't enough, the planet where all of this took place was blown to smithereens shortly afterwards.

I can buy The Hound from GoT making a comeback, but not Captain Solo.

All regained credibility the franchise built with the movie, despite the somewhat nitpicking shortcomings, would be wiped out if they pull some fast one on that.

I think there is a likelihood that there may be some flashback cameos for Harrison Ford as Solo in this film.  But General Solo, turned back smuggler, not just mostly dead, very dead.
His eminence has yet to show.

Started listening to the podcast yesterday at work and am on episode 5. Great job, it's really good to hear 2 fans who share a similar passion to this band like myself. Also learned a few things that I didn't know yet. Keep up the great work guys, I'll be listening as long as you put up episodes!
    Thanks!

I saw them twice in '98 and then didn't see them until Wrigley '13, so don't feel bad, life happens. I wish I'd gone to more shows in between (had TenClub tickets for Tampa '00 and Birmingham '03) but due to family shit, just didn't go.

Just let me have this one thing, guys. I mean, you're probably right but I want to believe even if it's only for a couple more months.

Hey, if they brought him back, I'd be thrilled. Everyone should have a childhood hero and HS was mine.

Great work on the Unplugged episode. And thank you for giving me my own podcast to run counter to my wife's podcast about people killing other people.
