Single Podcast Theory

Hello everybody!

This is Brad Lyons. I'm gonna keep this short and to the point. I have teamed up with another huge PJ fan (Brad Blazek) and have started a Pearl Jam podcast named Single Podcast Theory. This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time, and am extremely excited about getting this started. We are putting out our first three episodes tonight at midnight and will be releasing one episode a week after that. We make no claims on being more knowledgable about the band than anyone else, we just want to start another way for all of us that have loved this band for so long to share and communicate. I hope some of you that enjoy podcasts will join us for the ride. You can find us on Apple Podcasts, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. We are not making a penny for doing this, nor do we want to. This is just for the love of the band. Anyway, this will be my only thread, definitely don't want anyone to feel spammed. For those of you that choose to listen and hang out with us, just reply here if you choose.

Thanks! Take care!

  • I work in front of a computer screen 60-80h per week, and WTF, Norm Macdonalds show, Pearl Jam live bootlegs and The Giant Beastcast only lasts so long. So I gladly listen.

I recommend the podcast. Good stuff and I love hearing people go into detail about the songs.
  • The All Encompassing Trip was/is my favorite PJ podcast! Anyone remember?

Thanks so much for giving us a shot! We'll get better as we get a few episodes under our belt. We will be ranking the studio records in order of least favorite to favorite. Send us your list and we'll read it on the following show. Definitely want this a to be a show where fans can weigh in on their thoughts and opinions as well. singlepodcasttheory@gmail.com

Just getting through the first couple.  So far so good.  I think in terms of keeping people in the fold it may need so pre-show solicitation on the topic on hand, and one or two other quick features that are based on the listener participation, but that will sort it self out when you get more under the belt.

Listening now.  And thanks for the shout out! LMAO I can't recall how I ended up with this screen name nor why I can't change it!  It is somehow some combo of my initials and I think part of my member number.  I am forever branded.

Ten at #8? For shame!  ;)
(Where's that Cersei Lannister Walk of Shame meme/gif when you need one!)
Additional Note: In fairness to (musician?) Brad who gave such a low ranking (not rating, mind you), I haven't listened to the studio album (either version) in years. In fact, I rarely listen to any of them anymore - it's bootlegs and live versions all the way for me!

Non-musician BradB here...Ten is so good IMO, it doesn't ever sound overplayed to me. But, I don't listen to the studio albums as much either. I listen to boots all the time too. I actually listened to the Moore Theater '92 show earlier today. What a show! Breath is insane.
Thanks for checking us out! Hope you stick around.

Just listened to Episode #5 (LB). Although I'm not a huge fan of the album I did enjoy the podcast. Getaway, MYM, Pendulum, and Infallible (and MAYBE the title track) are all solid tunes - especially Getaway. Also, when I saw them perform Pendulum to open the show I saw in Buffalo, I thought that it might eventually be put up along side the likes of classic, "slow burn" openers like Release or Long Road. Maybe I was getting ahead of myself but I'm sure you catch my drift. It was pretty cool opener.

Earlier in the episode, you mentioned of how the band playing of No Code (Moline '14) and Yield (Milwaukee '14) may have seemed a bit of a gimmick on the surface (which I you, of course, stated wasn't the case). However, like many bands that play older albums, Pearl Jam didn't announce it in advance (thus somewhat maintaining the surprise factor) they didn't TOUR the album like most do. If there's is in fact a gimmick involved, that'd be it (and this is coming from someone who saw U2's JT30 and loved it).

I don't personally think it's too gimmicky, I just have heard people say that when some bands have done it. I've personally seen a few bands do it and it's one of the greatest things ever IMO. If it's a record I really like, than why not?

True (and sorry if I misquoted you). I don't want to come across as someone who doesn't appreciate a good album live (not sure about your feeling on U2 - they can be quite polarizing) but the JT show I saw this year was fantastic. However, I don't think they're fooling anyone when they say they are doing it due to the current state of the world.

Gotta throw in that I attended an PJ album show of my own (the Binaural one in Toronto last year) and thought it was....very good but a bold move. I mean, playing a relatively obscure album in a big (but somewhat fickle) city was a risk for sure.

SO jealous. I love Binaural! Would love to be part of any "album show" but Binaural would be pretty special *because* it's so obscure.

Not really a huge fan of U2, but I definitely like Joshua Tree. I've only seen a couple bands do full album shows, New Found Glory (3 different albums on their current tour) and Megadeth doing Rust In Peace, one of my all-time favorite albums. I think it's just a cool thing for bands to do for the hardcore fans of certain albums.

Considering Episode 5: I sort of agree that the last three songs don't necessarily fit with rest of the album but I don't think LTRP would be a good closer. I think they should of kept one of them (Yellow Moon, imho) and dropped the other two.
  • Just checked out the introduction. Sounds good so far. Thank you all! Can't wait to check out the rest.
