In the world of a cop, this is a pretty big problem if someone cannot make a life safety decision based on the information provided. Gauging whether someone holding a gun who will not put it down will only use it on themselves and not you or anyone else is not something any department is going to support. Unfortunately dispatch fucked this up even worse by not relaying critical information on the gun not being loaded. I hope that dispatcher was also terminated. An officer on probation who can't make the decision to shoot an unstable individual with a gun is going to be a liability to himself and his co-workers.Thirty Bills Unpaid said:

I don't think anyone in this story is an idiot though. It's unfortunate and hopefully the terminated officer can move on with his life and seek a career where he can apply his innate capability for compassion and empathy. He should move on though. He violated department policy on safety and the department has to look at the safety of an entire department and the citizens of that municipality. He was a liability.It's a hopeless situation...0 -
