I do feel incredibly lucky to be born into a middle-class Canadian household, though.
I am extremely grateful to live in canada, but I'm not proud of it. I don't sing the national anthem for a reason.
And as for buying a house - you should still be proud, because you worked to earn your house

however, I think being proud of some customs and cultural aspects of your lineal history are fine. but I find most people who are patriotic aren't proud of anything like that; they are proud of where they are born geographically and how strong they think their country is militarily and being the so-called "good guys". being proud of government intervention in global affairs puzzles me. people in canada are proud of "being canadian", which means being polite, or something. but we aren't all polite, so that's not even close to accurate. I know a lot of dicks in canada.
and almost all of us white people in canada and the US don't have one specific culture we are from: we are all a mish-mash of european DNA.
