Vodka, How Do I Love Thee

Apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, from whom this is all taken.

Vodka, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and degradation and slight
My liver can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of vitality and ideal gracefulness.
I love thee to the limit of every day’s
Most full bottle, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as blind strive for light.
I love thee soberly, as they turn from approbation.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old habits, and with my childhood’s wonder.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost martyrs. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if Flying Spaghetti Monster choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
The love he receives is the love that is saved

It's been awhile. Vodka was my go to for years after I got out of college, but I can't remember the last time I drank or bought it. I always had to have some Ketel One or Grey Goose straight on hand for Vodka tonic or sour. My flavored favorites were Effen Black Cherry, Absolut or Stoli Vanilla and Three Olives Cherry. I could probably afford a little better now.

Just typing those has me thinking it's time to pick up a bottle. I've been more of a whiskey and bourbon guy lately.
    It's a hopeless situation...

F Me, how do I love thee's beautiful poetry piggy-back?

...and tbergs, something tells me you had him at Ketel One :)

I don't know much about vodka except that I like how some pronounce the "v" as "w", and with OJ or grapefruit juice.

Give Reyka a shot. I will have to pick up a new bottle this weekend. I just wish more stores carried it as I have to drive across town for it.

The interwebs are your friend. Hit some Drizly up, even BevMo offers delivery in some places and shipment in most.
It is always best to plan ahead. Never want to run out of your best friend.

Russian Standard is my favorite. The "original" can be picked up for $20 a bottle, if not less. And I'd take the Pepsi challenge with it vs Ciroc or Grey Goose or any of that expensive shit any day. It's one of the most versatile vodkas I've ever tried as it can be taken as a shot, sipped on the rocks (my fave), or used as a cocktail mixer and all three are smooth and crisp.
I've never had RS Gold, but I have had the Platinum and it's like drinking the purest snow from highest peaks of the Ural Mountains. You can grab it for about $40 a bottle.
Next I'd have to go with Stolichnaya. Again, inexpensive, widely available, and very versatile. They go a little overboard with the flavors in my opinion, but some of them are really good. The Stoli Hot is really good for a Bloody Mary. They had a Chocolate Raspberry one which went great with cola or Dr. Pepper. And you can't go wrong with Vanil and root beer. But plain old Stoli is a good go-to for a shot, sipper, or mixer.
Third I'd go with Ketel One. Also very light and crisp. I don't find it as versatile as I don't think it makes a great shooter or mixer, but on the rocks or in a martini it's tough to beat.

HCD -- nice reviews! I dont drink the flavored stuff but for a concoction that an awesome board member here taught me (and that is strictly with Deep Eddy Lemon & Deep Eddy Ruby Red. (also in that drink? Ketel One, Triple Sec, Orange Bitters)
Will have to try Russian Standard but I 100% promise you I can do the Pepsi Challenge and pick Ketel One out. Distinctive flavor for me.
RS Gold sounds great too. Going to get some of each. Ever try the JMXO? It might change your mind about 'the expensive shit"....I only use for the first drink when I have a bottle...and then I go to Ketel. That shit is a-maze-ing.

E - my dad used to keep a bottle of Stoli in the freezer at all times. My brother also likes it this way. I prefer to drink it cold, before it gets syrupy...but I like your style. (As usual!)

I never saw that before. Do you put the pickle in the vodka?
Tito s is also a really nice American vodka. I finished a bottle of grey goose and I must admit that it s waaaay overrated.

You have a bite of a pickle (we had a tray of ice with sliced pickles on top) after you drink the vodka. They go well together.

Titos is OK, they have made a big marketing push and some places only serve Titos

I think the Mann center and the Camden whatever the hell they call it these days amp. Both only served Titos last summer.

Grey Goose tastes like sickly poop.
    I always liked Stoli.

But I do not miss it.
