Only 2 Drummers Get In? RnRHOF. Merged

Completely agree. Jack couldn't play like Dave & Dave couldn't play like Jack.HughFreakingDillon said:
I love Jack and his style (Yield and No Code would have been incredibly different if Dave A were still in the band). I don't think Dave A could have pulled off his style. I just don't think Jack could keep up with the speed of Dave A's drumming, that's all.Abe Froman said:
Funny how different we all hear this band. I loved jacks style. Even on Vs/Vitalogy songs. He was a beast live.HughFreakingDillon said:
I disagree. some drummers are inconsequential. I think Dave K falls into this category. Dave A was a monster that allowed them to write those songs and play them live. watching Jack trying to play vs/vitalogy songs was like watching a fat guy on a treadmill.mcgruff10 said:If dave was there I would imagine it would be very awkward....why would you want that? Anybody could have drummed during that period; people didn't go to Pearl Jam shows or buy ten-vitalogy because of Dave.
I love what each brought to the table, though. The rules are the rules & the band can't really do anything about it.I LOVE MUSIC.

Yup, he was fired for being too awesome & nice.Dissident_Canuck said:
Wasn't he fired because his personable, smiling, love-what-I-do attitude clashed with Eddie, who at the time was going through his morose, world-weary, moody, tortured artist, it's-a-struggle-each-day-not-to-kill-myself phase?HughFreakingDillon said:
well of course it was personal back then. they didn't fire him because his drumming sucked.Merkin Baller said:

None of us know what really went on behind the scenes, so how do you know it's not personal?
They should have kicked out Eddie instead, the f does that guy know about being in a rock band?0 -

The induction is business, not personal, is what I meant. The firing was completely personal I'm sure as Dave's drumming was awesome.Merkin Baller said:

Everyone is saying get over it, it was 20 years ago. Can't you say the same about the current band members and what ever old beef there is? The induction is about recognizing the bands legacy and to me that includes Dave. And Jack.

Just hopping in here to scream my opinions into the void.... and I can promise you my opinions are correct, so enjoy them responsibly.
1. It is awesome that PJ is in the RRHOF. They deserve it.
2. Dave A probably deserves to be included, but really, whatever.
3. Dave was fired for musical and personal reasons a long time ago. That is completely justified.
4. There is an obnoxious "Dave A Troll Cult" online who are hostile towards Ed.
5. 2 days after the nomination and the only conversation online about PJ concerns Dave A, and that is obnoxious.
6. The RRHOF is just industry wankery and should not be taken too seriously. Just enjoy it when and artist you love is honored and ignore it otherwise.KORITFW0 -

#4 cracks me up to no end - I'm sure some of them are trolls, but some are almost certainly serious which is both absurd & hilarious at the same time.0 -

everything happens for a reason. they were part of the band when it fit best. dave a in the beginning, mat now, ect. but the mix of that made THE BAND what it is today. and thats what its about. the band and the music they played. matt should get the nod over anybody honestly. it wasnt dave that sold the early records.. it was the timing of the style of music. the "GRUNGE" era lol. and eddie lol. dave grohl was the drummer for half the foo fighters albums.. they not gonna invite taylor hawkins cause of that? no... cause currently he is the drummer. as is matt... case closed lol2012 - MIA (Philly)

Can't be bothered to read the whole the whole thread, but I'll throw my two pennies in....
As I see it, Dave's time with the band was really important, he was the drummer they needed at the time, he drove those intense full energy shows with his rapidfire drumming, it suited where they were at the time. I think all of PJ's drummers have their good points, but I don't think any of the others play those early songs with quite the intensity that Dave did. That said, I don't think he's doing himself any favours by throwing a strop about it, he's pretty much guaranteeing he won't get an invite, a little more grace might have served him better.
I also think Jack Irons should have been included, again, I think he brought a different and unique style, that really shaped the music they were making at the time. Dave and Jack's exclusion just makes me think that the hall of fame don't really know much of the history of the band.0 -
Meanwhile, Ed is surfing a big wave in Hawaii and remembering the World Series and then going home to his beautiful family....painted moon0

I love The White Stripes, and she's great for that band, but out of all the bands I like, she's probably the least talented drummer.Spiritual_Chaos said:

I'm sure Dave A. felt screwed over back when he was kicked out and probably rightfully so.0

Without Jack Irons, no No Code and Yield as they are. Enough said.fluff4u said:
Jack Irons? Worst of them all.jp307677 said:Enough with this Dave A business. The guy is meaningless, period. Some people will never get over the "Ten era". You could completely erase that entire era and this band would still be just as great.
Jack Irons and Matt Cameron were the two drummers with the most influence and made a difference in the band.0 -
Did Dave A write ANY of the music or lyrics, or for that matter have anything to do with the direction of the songs on those albums? I'm pretty sure the answer is "no". Those albums would have happened with or without him.BV84003 said:^If Ten and Vs. weren't consistently in the top 2 or 3 most played albums on each tour I might be inclined to agree with you, at least about moving on from the past. Dave A made significant contributions to this band at one point in time and that should merely be acknowledged. Period.

Dave A actually has writing credits on all of VS and a majority of Vitalogy. The band shared credits for a majority of those 2 albums.jp307677 said:

Dave did have writing credits on VS and Vitalogy. Any of us on here that were around and got to see them play during the time of ten and VS will agree that Dave had a lot to do with the energy and sound then.jp307677 said:

.I can't say I give a flying fuck that Dave A isn't being inducted (and I think it would be in his best interests to shut up about it on social media), but I do think it would be a nice gesture if one of the band members invited him as a guest, to sit with them and join them on stage during their acceptance speech... Of course, I have no idea if Dave A would be happy to do such a thing if he was asked. For all we know, that would be like salt in the wound for him. There are a lot of options for how Dave might feel in such a situation. I also have no idea how awkward or not awkward it might be for any of the band members. That seems like a personal issue to me.With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

And also probably thinking about how fucking cool and amazing and kind of mind blowing it is that he's going to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.tkiggs said:Meanwhile, Ed is surfing a big wave in Hawaii and remembering the World Series and then going home to his beautiful family....
