It is a loss carryover if the story is correct. What is he supposed to do, just voluntarily pay tax? Would anyone dem or rep do that if in his position? Of course not.Wobbie said:no taxes for 20 years? yup, downtrodden americans, he's the guy for you.

Exactly. There is a huge difference between him failing to pay taxes or using illegally means to avoid paying taxes then to use the laws on the books that are open to all individuals and/or businesses. If people don't like the tax laws on the books then they should push to change them. Does anybody think Hillary will push for these tax changes in the face of all her corporate donors? Of course not. It's all pretty silly.bootlegger10 said:

Legal or not the bottom line is that the guy running for President hasn't paid federal income tax in 20 years. It is definitely something that could push undecided voters away.BS44325 said:

Edit: His team knows this that's why they haven't released his taxes. If it made him look good they would be on display.

Even before this is was widely know that he has been manipulating the stated values of his assets. When seeking loans he inflates the values, and when paying liabilities he states much lower values.BS44325 said:

Legal is all fine and good, but how Joe the Plumber types can overlook this shady behavior is beyond me.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
This is correct. Certainly what he did is legal in every way so the question is does this tick the average person off? I'm not exactly sure. His supporters seem to be buying the "I'm a good businessman and this is what any good business man would do" line along with the "why would I pay the government a penny more then I have to when this government is so corrupt and incompetent". A plumber, be it Joe or someone else, runs a small business and doesn't look to pay more in tax. Maybe the plumber gets it?rgambs said:

The tax issue is simple. It shows that he lost a MASSIVE amount of money.
He keeps saying that it shows he is "smart"...it doesn't, it shows that he lost a MASSIVE amount of moneyRemember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)

That is ridiculous. Businesses take risks...sometimes they win and sometimes they lose. The "smart" businessman knows how to shield themselves and/or how to sustain a loss while still moving forward. That number is massive on our scale but not massive at Trump's scale. The fact that he took that loss and yet is where he is today in business shows that he is indeed "smart". Again this is so silly except to the novice.Gern Blansten said:The tax issue is simple. It shows that he lost a MASSIVE amount of money.

You sure are twisting yourself out of shape here trying to spin this in a positive light. I can't see how losing almost a billion dollars is "smart" by any metric.BS44325 said:

Trump is the poster boy for the phrase "it's not what you know, it's who you know".0 -
I don't know how conservatives can defend Trump for taking advantage of the system in this way. Conservatives are always the first to rage against those money spongers taking advantage of welfare and other government systems. How is this any different? Other than Trump is fucking you, the taxpayer, a lot harder.0

The government loses billions every day.0

"Loses" often means "pays living wages to multitudes" and "accomplishes many tasks", just because you disagree with spending doesn't mean it is lost money. Sometimes it is lost though for sure.bootlegger10 said:The government loses billions every day.

You are lifetimes from that kind of wealth and heartbeats from needing government assistance and it's the welfare queen that pisses you off?

The smart guy doesn't lose that money bud. Especially one who is privately wealthy.BS44325 said:

He squandered (I'm guessing) about 33% of his net worth on those casinos (which is what caused the losses...along with Trump Airlines). Sorry but a smart guy doesn't do that...an idiot does that.
I prepared about 800 tax returns this year...how many did you do?Remember the Thomas Nine !! (10/02/2018)
