I would go further to say the 90s posters were fun and didn't have to mean shit. Artists and the buyers alike are looking too much into it these days. Give me a cartoon figure on a hot rod any day.

Seems like post-2000 that the Kong, Cracker Jack, and Pitt 13 are the consensus choice outside of variants. Part of the greatness of the Kong is that it was coupled with the greatness of that show. Top 5 Poster...Top 5 show as well.

Are they the consensus because people said so and majority follow. ..then they become sort after? Were there any less produced of those 3?

Personally i think some in the past 18 years since 98 are better than those 3. Personal choice

Its definitely a personal choice, but I think based upon most people's personal choice, Kong's clearly most desired poster (if not the "best" which is more subjective). I'm not an art expert by any stretch but the things the Kong, Cracker Jack, Pitt 13 and even the Lexington 16 have in common is the subject matter kicks ass and puts it over the top. The molten iron being poured into a guitar mold...The Cracker Jack kid with the devil horn... DK with the classic 80s arcade vibe...That's what makes the prints the most desirable in the past decade.

As far as most desireable... no.

1998s of course are in a different world. Hartford 96.

As far as post 98. Not including variants and such... i would say pj20 billboard would get the most responses if someone offered it up. Followed by cracker jack, then kong.

98s are the most expensive, but you rarely see people looking for them. Maybe because they're expensive.

Call me crazy but I don't like this at all, I guess it's because of the event more than the poster itself.

My fav print, kinda PJ related is the Neil Young Kozik from '93 I think

Less hype. Typically lower print runs. Innocent prints. Less critique. People bought simply whether they liked or not. Not for investment. Not because others liked them. Not to fund tours. I would take those any day. No amount of variants can replace those rarities. People didn't care for them like now. So less available in mint. I know all this is not talking about the print style per se but it's why they are more coveted

true, but your comparing apples with oranges. in 1998 the Internet was not like it is now with people connecting. There couldn't be a huge market, because people wouldn't know what a poster looked like from different stops on the tour, only the concert they went to. There was also no e-commerce, no one would buy things online. There was no eBay.

But I will agree with you I hate the variants and multi poster shows like the baseball stadiums and Global Citizens, that seems very commercial to me. One show, one poster, move on.

I finally scored the poster for my Seattle '98 shows:

I really like the symbolism of this poster.

I'd have to say the Munk One - Pittsburgh '13, Shuss Cracker Jack, PJ20 Billboard and even the Munk One - EV Seattle '11 are the modern classics for me!!

I think the Kong (like most recent Ames posters) is overrated. They are like the Nickleback of poster producers (i.e., lets pick Transformers or Donkey Kong and the masses will go for it). They've figured out that all they need to do is put band members on the posters to sell it (Kentucky Six, Trieste 2014, Transformers NYC 2015, Mexico City 2015) and then make three variants of it. The masses love it but give me something actually creative by Sperry, EMEK, or Munk One any day.

I agree with you that Ames is definitely going back to the same well by putting the band's faces on different characters, i.e. Wrestlers, transformers, saints etc. but they do do it well. However, DK isn't like those...
