The war in Iraq still rages on. American troops are aiding the government in trying to re-take Mosul...a town that was previously pacified! And now to top it all off Iraqi scientists are helping ISIS create weapons of mass destruction in Iraq!

So there were no weapons before because Bush lied but following the Obama withdrawal there are weapons everywhere apparently. The decision to withdraw just gets better everyday.

    go fix it then.

clearly it is not our problem anymore.

maybe someone with amazing foresight could magically stabilize the region.
Some people with amazing foresight did stabilize the region. It was W, Patreus, Crocker and the surge.
This is true but how many Americans had to die?
How many Americans have to live the rest of their lives with debilitating injuries?
How many billions of American tax dollars were spent?
How many innocent Iraqis had to die, be injured, lose their homes and livelihoods?
All to backup dick cheneys hardon for Saddam Husein.

In the grand scheme of things not many. From a historical perspective the military victory was not costly at all compared to previous invasion/pacifications. It is quite likely actually that post-withdrawal there have been far more civilian deaths then pre-withdrawal plus regional instability with no end in sight. Withdrawal was not without cost and that is Obama's and the retreat contigent's burden to share.

if only. humans are by and large selfish, so people content with their lives will generally vote the way they always have to maintain that lifestyle. why rock the boat, you know? itd take a seismic shift to wake the majority of people up.

    wrong again.

this was not amazing foresight. the surge was implemented out of desperation. it was not part of the original plan. anything to the contrary is revisionist history and is not being genuine.

the original plan was we were going to be greeted as liberators with minimal loss of lives and the oil we steal was going to pay for the war. completely. wrong. on. all. points.

amazing foresight would have followed what cheney originally said and not gone to iraq in the first place.

The surge was implemented to stabilize the country. That is what we are debating here. The amazing foresight was Patreaus and Crocker's ability to create a working strategy and Bush's decision to adopt it even while the entire democratic party and national media pushed for withdrawal. It worked. The country was stabilized. Then Obama pulled out and it collapsed. That is not revisionist history.

It was always going to collapse after American troops were withdrawn. It doesn't matter by whom or when. It was going to happen. The blame goes straight to dick cheney, don rumsfeld, and karl rove.

Of course, because why feed children who are hungry and provide care for sick people when you can maintain a military presence in every corner of the world instead.

You spend hours jawing about government waste and all the typical conservative BS about government spending, but you literally don't give a fuck how much money gets spent on foreign occupations.
You are a trip, dude. Sometimes you make me think you are Limbaugh in disguise.
Gotta give you more credit than that though, I truly think you have a better grip on Harambe and the way evolution works lol

What some people seem to refuse to admit or even consider is that from before day one going into Iraq was always going to be....

    A. Quagmire
    B. Mistake
    C. FUBAR
    D. A long slog to gain nothing
    E. About nothing other then dick/karl/don getting some sort of revenge
    F. Increasing haliburtons wealth
    G. All of the above

There are American troops in Iraq right now (and a small amount of Canadian ones as well). They are there without a status of forces agreement. As we have discussed multiple times, if the Obama administration wanted the troops to stay they could have stayed and prevented the carnage. Canada and the world would have followed his leadership. The revisionist history is to suggest that poor Obama had no choice. He just had to order the pull out. He didn't want to you see...he just had no other option. Sure he ruined Libya without getting anyone's permission but the collapse of the whole region after his withdrawal is just not his fault. It was always going to collapse! What nonsense.

Maybe a stupid question, but how on earth is military occupation helping to bring peace? The Iraqis have had the feeling they were occupied by a hostile force, this bread extremism, see the results of the occupation in the current extremism and violence. If the troops had stayed longer the hatred against the West would only have grown, in my opinion.

Remember when Canada invaded another country under false pretenses, bombed the shit out of them, occupied them for 13 years and counting, killed or had the events they put in motion kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and 4,000+ of their own service members, gave rise to ISIS and cost their treasury $1 trillion Loonies? Remember that? That was awesome.

    That was awesome.

    I don't remember that.
