When was the HB2 bill first introduced to the state legislature? Was it before the tour was announced?

No that bill was conceived, written, voted, passed and signed within 2 days.

The REAL reason for that bill (and most like it) is to also jam through other attacks on freedoms and the working poor... limiting minimum wages, taking away worker's rights... as long as they wrap it up in "trans women are going to molest your daughter" rhetoric people will support it.

When you get down to the brass tacks, if this sets precedent, there will be only a handful of places in the world where PJ should play a show if there is some piece of legislation they disagree with. They will will have to focus on Norway or someplace special in the land of gum drops and lolly pops.

Not really how that works. You can take up one cause without taking up them all. But if that was how it works I would be okay with that, I'm guessing more Canadian tours.
Well, a standard has been set on laws that discriminate and if PJ will play in that entire region. There are many states and countries (entire continents in some cases) that have laws that people could argue discriminate against others.

If this isn't how it works, the canceling the concert is not working.

This isn't about the law.I think we all agree it's bullshit. This is about timing and last minute nonsense.
If they really wanted an impact they would have continued to play and been vocal leaders getting the fans to come together in mass,to denounce the law. That would have been the way to go.

That does nothing for the cause we here on the forum would be talking about it but no one else ....
They cancelled and it makes the news way more effective..

Thank you for the clarification...any legislation that was conceived, written, voted, passed and signed within 2 days ... should raise warnings signs with the electorate.

Pearl Jam made a mistake, a big mistake, in not canceling sooner. They waited too long and in that screwed over their fans. They should apologize for waiting too long to make their decision. Admit their mistake.

Ed apologized profusely in the video. People will get over it or not, remain fans or not. Maybe some here need to find a band (lots of 'em out there) that doesn't care about social and environmental issues and such. What the hay, there always the Nug!

Many states may be considering passing laws such as this or even have them on the books but, unfortunately for the residents of Raleigh, this is where the war is being fought.

I agree. Pearl Jam did what was right for them and apologized for the inconvenience and the fans have "vented". If the pissed fans can't accept that then they should move along, life's too short to be a wet blanket.

I'm guessing the average fan is either over this or will be soon enough. I think part of the deal here is that some people just have this need to be pissed off at someone, some just need to vent a bit and the rest have moved on.

So this is the band you like. This is the bands fan website to which you visit. PJ has been very clear about their positions on social matters. PJ fans mostly agree with their positions and like them for matching their views

So hope to hear WMA soon. .

    Timing could of been better.
So what's your point?? Are you implying this band is not for me since I don't agree w/ many of their political statements?? I like rock n Roll period...cause it's only Rock n roll and I like it. You know, Not everyone's mind who likes this band is rotted to the core liberal Mumbo Jumbo...

Getting back to the point, I would love to hear from someone who was directly effected by this Fuck You move by the boys.... Someone chime in who has tics...
You restated my point. It's a liberal Mumbo Jumbo band.

^^^^ P.S. I'm very liberal. To be, this is a misguided but unenforceable law. I don't forsee the formation of a State Bathroom Police. I guess I'm missing the outrage(?)

It's state sponsored discrimination. And is enforceable.

See, the reason I think it's pretty cool the band did this is because they don't care what anyone thinks. They may feel a little badly for the fans, but it didn't outweigh what they knew to be right.

It is, after all, just a concert.

Son of a gun... AMT having much more civil discussion that what we're seeing on the porch. It's a blood bath up there!

I'm sure I would be unhappy if Missoula (my one and only PJ show) had been cancelled. It took my wife and I three or four days to get there and we were on small roads and highways- no cell phone service most of the time, never any internet and didn't even bother to buy a newspaper. It was a getaway kind of trip. We would have gotten there and missed the show. But for a good cause, I honestly believe I would NOT have spewed the kind of venom and anger I'm seeing on the porch. We would still have made a good road trip out of it, hopefully met some of you good folks I did meet there, would have made plans for another show and would still be a fan. I just can't get behind all the hate.

It's strange when you here a lot of hate coming from people who aren't even going to the show. Doesn't effect them in any way, so why are they so angry?

I was just thinking the same thing. Some of the responses I've seen read like, "I had heart surgery scheduled in Raleigh and Dr. Vedder cancelled on me and I spent my kids college funds to get here and now my whole year is shot."

At the same time, I've read a lot of good stuff from people who were disappointed but understand the concept of priorities.
