Right. And I tried (tactfully, I think) to call out your original spelling. I didn't assume you were using it willfully (quite the opposite). Your response to me was something like "wtf are you talking about etc," in a rather argumentative way. Still, no one assumed you were defending the use, but it did seem a little antagonistic. It also didn't help with your follow up posts where you presumed we all thought you were racist.Thoughts_Arrive said:
As I said before I HONESTLY did not know the difference. I thought the spelling with the A on the end is just a cool hip hop way of spelling the N word. Just like Z on the end of bitches.vant0037 said:Thoughts_Arrive said:He keeps saying bitches in his lyrics, I am still listening online.
Isn't that misogynistic?
PS sorry if my spelling of bitches is offensive, what's the 'hip hop way' of spelling? bitcheZ?

No one called you racist. If you're sensitive enough to think someone has, then perhaps you are also sensitive enough to understand why the casual use of a word along with the spelling you used is insensitive as well.
You're free to post here of course, but in a thread about an artist you apparently don't care for, I'm not sure why you'd want to. No one here is interested in a debate about his lyrics or relevance or talent.
Excuse my ignorance on the spelling of words in hip hop culture.
I am not arguing whether or not the spelling of the N word with ER on the end is offensive or not.
I am not denying spelling it with ER on the end is not offensive.
I am here because I am open to checking out Kendrick's work.
I am a casual rap fan so thought I might like his work.
Long story short: no one thinks you're a racist, but you're not doing a very good job of "I'm just here checking him out."1998-06-30 Minneapolis

You've got me pissed off dude. Sorry but it is what it is.
I made a mistake, didn't spell it the offensive way deliberately.

Right. And no one assumed the worst. You were called on it, you responded how you did, and we're still talking about it. I don't think anyone currently assumes the worst either. Please don't carry on here and jeopardize the thread.Thoughts_Arrive said:You've got me pissed off dude. Sorry but it is what it is.

Ok, you thought you might, but by your own posts and words you don't see or hear anything that moves you, so I guess some of us are wondering why you're still going on? No one called you racist, someone just suggested you think about which words you repeat and in what context. You have said you didn't know the difference, ok, now that is cleared up as well.Thoughts_Arrive said:

Dude, it's over, so feel free to stay if you actually have more to say about Lamar's actual work. It's not a thread about you and your feelings, it's about Kendrick Lamar as an artists. But the posts after posts from you about this, and snippy comments like about "bitchez" are already getting old and we're only on page 2 of this thread.
Can we get back to talking about Lamar's work?Post edited by JH6056 on0 -
Bitches is misogynistic. But its also a cultural thing in hip hop. Like use of the n word, saying bitches doesn't have the cutting edge in hip hop culture and can be used in a more casual slang way, not unlike "chicks". But sure, one could be a bit more sensitive in using it.
I don't think the language Kendrick uses in anyway diminishes the achievements of this album or the message it has. To be honest, it didn't cross my mind until this thread.

I hope he puts out an EP of these unreleased jams BTW. His Colbert jam is one of favorite kdot tracks.

As someone who doesn't generally enjoy hip hop, I totally disagree with that theory.JH6056 said:
Yup, good way to explain it. That's pretty much the bottom line on this point, especially it "not being the album to pull you into the genre".Tim Simmons said:
Because if you enjoy hip hop, you'll get it immediately. If you don't enjoy hip hop, its not as obvious and takes work. Or to put it a different way, its probably not the album to pull you in the genre. I mean if you can, great, But if you look at like "hes angry at the man", then its not for you.PJ_Soul said:Not sure about that last point.

You weren't made out to be that at all. I feel like you are the ONLY one who took it that way, so I wouldn't sweat it if I were you. You are making it a way bigger deal than it is.Thoughts_Arrive said:I feel like I have been made out to be a racist black person hater.

It was a bit odd that he wrote out ni**er. Not necessarily racist. I mean, who does that, even when quoting?

Yeah I understand that but I didn't know the difference between the spellings as I have said a few times already. It was an honest error and I don't know what more to say other than sorry for any offense caused. ANYWAYS....I just got home from the shops and bought a copy of TPAB, only $10 why not.
I like King Kunta, funky baseline. That song came in at no. 2 on this years Triple J Hottest 100 of 2015 here is Australia.Post edited by Thoughts_Arrive onAdelaide 17/11/2009, Melbourne 20/11/2009, Sydney 22/11/2009, Melbourne (Big Day Out Festival) 24/01/20140 -

Check out Flying Lotus. He produced that track. He's a pretty big electronic producer.. Buds with Thom Yorke. Makes great albums.0

Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington... pretty much anything on the Brainfeeder label is worth a listen if you're digging the jazz/soul/electronic aspects of that kendrick album...0
