What? It's true, I can hear him saying these profanities.
Hearing and repeating certain words are two different things.
wtf are you saying? That I am in the wrong for repeating words he uses in his lyrics?

No, I'm saying you should be careful which words you repeat literally. Words can sound vastly different depending on who says them. If I really need to explain why directly quoting his use of a certain word is probably in poor taste, then I guess I'll stop there.

(hint: you said "n***er!", when aside from the fact that the typical quotation of that word ends with an "a" so as to differentiate between the slang hip hop use and the white racist use, is generally not done!)

That's what I'm saying. Careful how you use the "n-word." Sorry if I was obtuse, but I figured it was obvious.

It's 2016, and no its not ok yet.

Except there is a difference between ni**er and ni**a. And most people censor it when writing it either way.

Kinda odd that you don't think someone could get offended writing "ni**er" even as a quote.

Oh for heavens sake, I wasn't being racist. I honestly didn't realise there is a difference in the spelling.

Not sure about that last point.

Because if you enjoy hip hop, you'll get it immediately. If you don't enjoy hip hop, its not as obvious and takes work. Or to put it a different way, its probably not the album to pull you in the genre. I mean if you can, great, But if you look at like "hes angry at the man", then its not for you.
Yup, good way to explain it. That's pretty much the bottom line on this point, especially it "not being the album to pull you into the genre".

    Isn't that misogynistic?

PS sorry if my spelling of bitches is offensive, what's the 'hip hop way' of spelling? bitcheZ?

No one called you racist. If you're sensitive enough to think someone has, then perhaps you are also sensitive enough to understand why the casual use of a word along with the spelling you used is insensitive as well.

You're free to post here of course, but in a thread about an artist you apparently don't care for, I'm not sure why you'd want to. No one here is interested in a debate about his lyrics or relevance or talent.

As I said before I HONESTLY did not know the difference. I thought the spelling with the A on the end is just a cool hip hop way of spelling the N word. Just like Z on the end of bitches.
Excuse my ignorance on the spelling of words in hip hop culture.
I am not arguing whether or not the spelling of the N word with ER on the end is offensive or not.
I am not denying spelling it with ER on the end is not offensive.
I am here because I am open to checking out Kendrick's work.

Right. And I tried (tactfully, I think) to call out your original spelling. I didn't assume you were using it willfully (quite the opposite). Your response to me was something like "wtf are you talking about etc," in a rather argumentative way. Still, no one assumed you were defending the use, but it did seem a little antagonistic. It also didn't help with your follow up posts where you presumed we all thought you were racist.

Long story short: no one thinks you're a racist, but you're not doing a very good job of "I'm just here checking him out."

Ok, you thought you might, but by your own posts and words you don't see or hear anything that moves you, so I guess some of us are wondering why you're still going on? No one called you racist, someone just suggested you think about which words you repeat and in what context. You have said you didn't know the difference, ok, now that is cleared up as well.

Dude, it's over, so feel free to stay if you actually have more to say about Lamar's actual work. It's not a thread about you and your feelings, it's about Kendrick Lamar as an artists. But the posts after posts from you about this, and snippy comments like about "bitchez" are already getting old and we're only on page 2 of this thread.

Can we get back to talking about Lamar's work?

Bitches is misogynistic. But its also a cultural thing in hip hop. Like use of the n word, saying bitches doesn't have the cutting edge in hip hop culture and can be used in a more casual slang way, not unlike "chicks". But sure, one could be a bit more sensitive in using it.

I don't think the language Kendrick uses in anyway diminishes the achievements of this album or the message it has. To be honest, it didn't cross my mind until this thread.

Because it's derogatory and marginalizes a subset of people.

Yeah I understand that but I didn't know the difference between the spellings as I have said a few times already. It was an honest error and I don't know what more to say other than sorry for any offense caused. I feel the way you guys have replied has had a go at me for my mistake.

ANYWAYS....I just got home from the shops and bought a copy of TPAB, only $10 why not.
I like King Kunta, funky baseline. That song came in at no. 2 on this years Triple J Hottest 100 of 2015 here is Australia.

Check out Flying Lotus. He produced that track. He's a pretty big electronic producer.. Buds with Thom Yorke. Makes great albums.

Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Kamasi Washington... pretty much anything on the Brainfeeder label is worth a listen if you're digging the jazz/soul/electronic aspects of that kendrick album...
