I'm glad Samardzija got his shutout yesterday. Nothing would pain me more than losing to that sob!

So here we are at the break.
If the season were to end today, the Cubs would be a playoff team, right?
    Wild card?

Yep. If the season ended today, we'd play at Pittsburgh in the WC game. 7 games over .500 at the break far exceeds my expectations for this team. If only we had 5 Jake Arrietas, we'd be about 77-10 right now.

Wild card is the Cubs ONLY option...And that's a shame

If the Cardinals go 37-36, the remainder of the year, they finish 93-69

The Cubs would have to go 46-29....17 games over .500, just to tie.

And that's not happening in a million years.

Yeah, the Cards, even with injuries are still the team to beat and show no signs of slowing down. Best case scenario, we catch up and pass the Rats. That's gonna be tough. Just got to keep winning and hope for the WC.
But yeah....I expected this team to do much better this year, but didn't expect to be having the playoff talk this year.

I see a massive cardinals and pirates slide in the second half. I think the cubs catch the pirates and get the number 1 wild card seed. I don't think they will catch the cards. Even though I think they will make it interesting. I say they get within 5 games.

And I'm still holding onto hope that the cubs go after Cueto.

I doubt they go after cueto, but God damn it, there's no reason not to go after Chapman. We need a closer almost as bad as we need an ace.

He did indeed, cutz. Those 49 HR led the league, too. I will say for McGwire, at least he had the guts to admit taking andro while everyone else was running with their tails between their legs. And at the time of admission, it was not illegal in MLB nor was it federally classified as an anabolic steroid.

oh, he was good when he came in but got hurt and became a juicer. pretty sure he did more than andro.

Didn't McGuire say he did steroids his entire professional career? Including his rookie year?

I thought he used the tried and true "I only did them to recover from an injury" excuse aka the Pettite Defense.

    but what do I know?

Pretty sure he simply said he used and didn't say anything too specific. Cards had him come out with it when they hired him as hitting coach to avoid the headache once the season started. He did dispute a lot of Canseco's book, but I don't remember if that was before or not.

Jonathan Papelbon is looking like a good choice. And at this point, we might only have to give up Castro or Baez to get him. Good fucking riddance to either one of those clowns. Baez is a complete suckfest, and Castro is the dumbest... that's D-U-M-B-E-S-T... dumbest player in all of MLB.

I'd rather see Baez go. I wouldn't mind keeping Castro. He's only what, 26? This is by far his worst year offensively. It could be his best year defensively. He'll hit.
