Have a little empathy, something humans are supposed to have, for people who mourn for their dogs, "like they were their own kids".

    don't be a dick.

and here's the irony......you see people here saying they'd let someone's baby BURN TO DEATH to save a dog, and I'M BEING A DICK? SERIOUSLY????

Your boos mean nothing to me, for I have seen what makes you cheer

He wasn't being dickish at all to me, more like floored at that perspective. Like I mentioned earlier, it's very personal and so subjective. I'll never forget the pain and grief when we euthanized our cat over eight years ago. The loss stays with you.

I just can't imagine the pain of losing a child being less or the same as losing a beloved animal.
thanks. I am floored at this. this is just beyond.........

I am not them and won't speak for them. I would save a person.

I try to have empathy for all animals and people. I would never get bent outta shape for somebody saying losing a pet is like losing your child. If they feel that way so be it. Means they care for people and animals which I find refreshing.

    so do I.

but you got all bent outta shape for me saying I disagreed with that statement. so I guess that's called hypocrisy?

I have to agree with this. I'm not sure what led to offense being taken in the original post. It seems like this is a case where the problem is just a difference in perspective, point of view, or opinion. That shouldn't be offensive.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at the vitriol being spewed here. people are applauding someone who unapologetically states that every human on the face of the planet is a piece of shit???

and dogs are loyal you say? really? NO SHIT. they are trained slaves owned by you. they are obedient to you. if you want to surround yourself with only beings that are subservient to you, that says more about you than it does about the rest of the humans that surround you.

Surprised to hear you say this, Hugh. For the most part, the AMT forum has been mostly filled with vitriol being spewed for quite some time and especially for the last several weeks. Your own posts in this thread come across as vitriol- go back and read them. And I don't mean to single you out. We all have our hands in this. This place is a wreck.

    I'm simply stunned.

This forum lights its hair on fire when a cop kills a man that has tried to flee, fought with him, and tasered him with the taser he stole from him.

    * By the way... two more cops shot to death in Mississippi, bringing the death toll for officers to 51 this year. No outrage there though. Geezuz Christ.

Now this forum says kids and people aren't special and there's too many of us anyways.

Sorry people... my son and daughter are special. They are the most important people on this planet from my perspective. If you consider a dog or cat's life more valuable than theirs... then you are not okay in my books. At all.

And people talk of how awful we are and how we are destroying the planet: did you drive today? Did you buy any food that wasn't grown locally? Do you have leather shoes that weren't made from the deer you shot with an arrow in the fall? Did you turn on a light? Thought not. It's not everybody else, so if you want to talk the talk... you should walk the walk. Otherwise, you come across as a fashionable environmentalist.

Actually until I got sick, yes I hunted for my food, and yes I use the leather for clothing and such.. Trust me going to the grocery store grosses me the fuck out.. That kind of greed is just maddening! And I walk everywhere now.. So???

I've tried to write out a response to this thread a few times and keep deleting what I type. Fact is, some people are crazy about their pets. CRAZY.

It would be pretty sad if someone had both pets and children, and cared more about their pets. Example, they went back into a burning building to save their pet over their kid. Wonder if that has ever happened? Not saying that is what the topic is about, but that should put it in perspective.

    kids > pets

And I didn't have to have a kid to come to that conclusion.

For sure it is not the same.. The dog you know will be loyal and loving.. The kid is a scary prospect! You can put all the love and attention in the WORLD into that kid, and it could still become a serial killer.. Period!

That's the sense I've taken from this. I see some of the views differently, disagree based on...well, based on myself, my experiences and conscience - doesn't mean those other views are discounted. They're as valid as the counter - and as such, entitled to speak to them.

And B - this place isn't a wreck (at least to me...what makes you think so?). It's chugging along pretty well, and there've been some interesting discussions here lately. People can (should) argue their points without it being seen as a communication breakdown.

    If anything, the opposite.

WH, how is my picking up some apples, toilet paper, pork chops, milk and (those damned expensive) razors from the market greedy?

I guess it depends on if you want to come here to argue or debate. Personally, I prefer discussion or debate vs arguing. To my way of seeing things, there is far more arguing, put downs, some bullying and teaming up, some bating/trolling and good deal of vitriolic haranguing than there is discussion or debate. Am I the only one here who sees it that way and is it possible that others who see it that way just aren't present here anymore?

I've been a staunch supporter of pit bulls in this forum - but I (and surely you as well?) am cognizant of how when it comes to nature, nothing is guaranteed. Put all the love and support and nurturing into a child or animal, it won't ensure the outcome - this, totally separate from trusting in them.
