Nope. Not ALL humans. But in the general count, animals are far greater creatures than humans.
I worked with a Doctorate professor for a number of years in a counseling training program. She was amazing. She helped more people than anyone I've ever know. She was dedicated to helping people beyond measure. She confided to a group in one of our classes once that in some ways she considered herself a misanthrope (noun: misanthrope; a person who dislikes humankind). That statement neither surprised nor offended me in the least. I totally understood it.

I guess I am what could be considered a misanthrope, then. But all the cruelty, insanity, and uncalled for devastation I have experienced first hand, has made it very very difficult to choose a person over an animal. No animal has ever tried to kill me, tortured me, abused me, lied to me, beaten me nearly to death, raped me, ran me over with a car on purpose, or lit my clothes on fire while still IN them!! Nope...that and many, many, MANY other instances were all performed by humans. HUMANS. People. Homo Sapiens.. As for failed relationships, those stemmed from the inability to establish trust due to experience. Without trust there IS no relationship. And while I know that now, it doesn't make changing it any easier. No more easier than the fact that humans are the reason I can't trust humans. Again... At least I'm working on trying to change this, but humans don't make it very easy.. AT all. Just being honest.

Or Colorado Springs! They are all over out here. I have started handing out dog and cat food to the people with pets. I have had a few ask me for money for food for them... I tell them go get a job! I am feeding your dog/cat, because it relies on you to feed it, and since you don't ( can't won't whatever..) go get one and hold it, your dog should not have to suffer.

It is very possible to have disdain for the human race (a feeling based, for example, on what others here have pointed out- that fact that our species has a terrible history of violence and cruelty), i.e. be misanthropic and yet at the same time care very much for individuals.
There are probably far more people who scorn the human race yet care very much and would make great personal sacrifices for many individuals than there are people who hate all animals but would care for certain species or individual members of animal communities. No doubt, there are more people who are misanthropic than there are people who are "misotheric" (a man named Jim Mason coined the term "misothery" to refer to hatred or contempt for animals) but that doesn't mean misanthropes or misotherics cannot care for any number of people or animals or for that matter people and animals or any other convoluted combination of the above.

We are the most obtrusive and devastating creature on the planet! The absolute WORST thing God created, in my opinion!! So when folks start saying how great and novel the human species is, I find it laughable. Kids, they're GREAT! And until they grow up, I'd pick a kid over an adult. The homeless people with pets that I know care very deeply for their pets, which is often why they are homeless - very few rental units take pets, particularly dogs, so many people choose to live homeless with their pets than give them up and get housed. If you have a pet and lose your housing, you're in trouble. By and large I don't think the dogs care much about living outside, as long as they are with their owners. It isn't all about trying to get your sympathy.

I was a pet owner. Loved my dog for the entire 13 years of his life like he was my best friend (I was a teenager). I get how attached people get to their animals. I am an animal lover myself. Had various cats over the years as well.
But when someone tells me a story, like one just told to me a few minutes ago, that a friend's dog just got run over in front of him, and adding "that's like watching your kid get killed". I bit my tongue for about 10 seconds. Then he said it again. I said "actually, it's not at all like that". He said "well, people who have animals would disagree". I said "well, until I married an allergic woman, I had pets all my life, and loved them dearly, but for someone to say that watching my dog get run over would be the same as watching my daughter getting run over, is incredibly ridiculous". He got all annoyed and walked away.
Seriously, not only is it ridiculous, I find that offensive. You are telling me that my daughter(s) is the same as your fucking PET. I didn't buy my kids. I helped CREATE them. Watched their births. Stayed with them in the hospital when they were sick. Cried as the doctor held her hand as they walked to the OR.
I would think adoptive parents have the same feelings. Human to human bonds cannot be duplicated with an animal.
And I have only heard this nonsense uttered by, you guessed it, people who have never had kids.

One of my dogs is my avatar. She died 5 years ago and I still mourn and it still hurts.

He wasn't being dickish at all to me, more like floored at that perspective. Like I mentioned earlier, it's very personal and so subjective. I'll never forget the pain and grief when we euthanized our cat over eight years ago. The loss stays with you.
I just can't imagine the pain of losing a child being less or the same as losing a beloved animal.
