Not sure if it has anything to do with blood type and diet but a lot of the research I've done says that most people can't consume legumes unless properly soaked first because of how hard they are to digest. Some legumes I can't eat at all because I can't digest them properly, like cashews. Certain beans I am ok with though. Have you researched the Weston Price diet?rr165892 said:Read some of the eating for your blood type stuff, and being O Neg it said not to eat Legumes.Which sucks because I love English Peas and Hummas.I gave it a try and Wouldnt Ya know my body(gut) responded great.Really knocked down that bloated after meal feeling.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

cashews are fine.
I gotta find something that will work for me. I'm a fat mess and I want to be in better shape for myself and for my kids. I want to get away from processed foods, but by the end of the day I'm so bloody lazy I just grab pizza pops or fucking tv dinners out of the fridge instead of making myself a decent lunch for the following day. then after I eat that shit at work I down a gallon of water because of all the sodium. if we have enough, I usually bring leftovers, but with my daughter on steroids for her colitis flare, she's eating everything in the house. But I also hate microwaves (I worry about what they do to food on the molecular level) and at my work they won't allow toaster ovens for reheating food.
I eat chips and dips and drink loads of pepsi with my canadian whiskey.
I drink about 4 giant mugs of coffee with white death (Coffee Mate) and sugar in each one every morning.
if i could turn this around it could be the basis of a tv show.

Hi Paulonious,
Start making small changes one at a time, then it's not so overwhelming.
Drinking water is great, so maybe start with ditching Pepsi for drinking water.
Take fruit, sandwiches and nuts, or salads to work things that that don't need heating.
Just a few suggestions I'm studying nutrition so you can pm if you want more suggestions.
Good luck, it's hard work but you just need to believe in yourself and get your family to help.0 -
Wow Hugh.Dude you need to get it together for your health and to set a worthy example for your kids.Start easy.No processed foods,no soda,No refined carbs.First 24 hrs or so will be the hardest but once you get a few days in you'll be rolling.Drink lots of water and walk a bit to start.Do you have any health conditions that would keep you from hitting some weight training, spin classes, yoga, etc?paulonious said:

Anyway, I think you're both decent men.

It is focused on eating non-processed foods with huge emphasis on consuming the entire animal. Lots of bone broths, eating organ meats, and consuming healthy fats. The use of fermented foods is another biggie. It is different than Paleo because it encourages eating legumes, nuts, etc. but that they are properly soaked to break them down prior to eating. It has been a life changer for my health!rr165892 said:No Riotgrl I have not.Whats the basis?

I hope you know that you shouldn't eat brains AT ALL! Prions are about as insidious as it gets, and eating brain or spinal tissue is the only way you are likely to contract a Spongiform Encephalopathy.riotgrl said:

Diets high in offal can also precipitate gout, and those who are sensitive to uric acid should avoid offal entirely.
I did a google search on "eating organ meat" and the top results were all hippy-dippy pro-Paleo sites encouraging people to eat more organs. I read through a few and, while they did counter the Vitamin A problem (without properly stating the opposing viewpoint) none of them addressed prions or gout. That is very troubling to me, and a sign of pseudo-science at work.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
I'm with you on non processed, and healthy fats. You lost me at "organ meats".I cant go there.I am aware that fermented foods in Asian diets is very good for you.Cant say I've givin them a proper trial run.riotgrl said:

Most organ meats that are referenced are liver and heart. I think both of those organ meats have been eaten for a very long time and I think there are very few concerns with eating either of those organs, in moderation. In terms of sensitivity to uric acid certain legumes can cause issues within sensitive individuals as well as the consumption of organs like liver.rgambs said:

I think the real problem is that most people don't understand their own food sensitivities and often eat foods that are not good for them. We are each individuals and what is sensitive for you may not be for me. Eating brains is not something that I am interested in consuming but I think warning people away from all organ meats is counterproductive considering the vast majority of unhealthy foods consumed by the average American which cause a whole host or problems and illnesses.
I would also say that I, personally, would never consume any organ meat from a factory farm. I would, and have, consumed the organ meat of animals raised in more sustainable ways. I think the most important thing is for people to research the cost/benefit ratio of any eating style rather than just assuming that an item is healthy. Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
