 No pun intended
I would think most city employees will vote for her.
Every low income worker will vote for her.
95% of the Black vote will be hers.
95% of the Hispanic vote will be hers.
95% of the Female vote will be hers.
IF you feel that way, your last post seems offensive to me. The implication is that middle class to wealthy white men are the only voters who vote intelligently.
Just saying she will get a ton of votes.
Plenty of middle class, wealthy white men working for the city, and the unions, who will vote for her. She will run away with that mayoral election.
She will be the next mayor of Chicago.
But I would be surprised if Lewis were to lose an election to Rahm.

Are you familiar with Chicago politics?rgambs said:Perhaps her opponent wears a top hat and monocle and talks like Snidely Whiplash, or KittenMittens Romney. I know it wasn't MEANT to be offensive, but it galls nonetheless.
Every single poll/prediction in regards to Rahm vs. Lewis....
Every single article involving voters, is broken down into Black votes, Hispanic votes, Female votes, blah blah, blah.

So 1st off, I would be hesitant due to her lack of experience.

They stopped short of calling me racist.unsung said:I didn't read it that way.
So it's racist to state that she will get votes based on demographics but not racist to say that Obama got 96% of the black vote.
 Yeah, ok.
But they are foaming at the mouth and dying to call me racist.
Which is nothing but PURE BULLSHIT!
But let them call me racist.
Then the REAL FUN here is going to start.

And Karen Lewis/Obama is a great comparison in my eyes.unsung said:I didn't read it that way.

 Yeah, ok.
People seem to like listening to Lewis talk. They may not be paying much attention to exactly what it is she is saying. But they like to hear her talk. The woman definitely has personality. 8 years ago people LOVED to hear Obama talk. All they needed to hear was HOPE and CHANGE. With those 2 words Obama won the presidential election.
I see Karen Lewis entering the mayoral election, and doing just the same.
She will beat the holy hell out of Rahm.
Without even having to worry about the issues.
It will be a personality thing, that wins her the election.

Anyway, callen's comment - When one takes out a loan, you have to realize what the monthly payment will be and make it happen. Same shit as housing crises. Don't blame schools or lending institutions, blame yourself makes a shitload of sense to me.0

Now had Toni Preckwinkle joined the race? Then it would have been interesting. Very interesting.

Be careful with your comments. You are two comments away from having to self-report these comments to your employer and take a leave of absence to go to tolerance camp.SPEEDY MCCREADY said:

It would if we were.talking about adults who knew any better. But student loans are actually marketed towards kids who have no idea how it works, and the lenders make a point of not informing them of the actual risks. On the contrary. They make a point of making the option seem appealing. Not every kid has a parent giving good advice.hedonist said:Jeez...Sunday morning here. I read books and wrote term papers on them when I was 20 in college. I wanted to be an accountant and I'm having to pay to write term papers. How the hell does writing a damn term paper for the 20th time help me be a better accountant? That is one of the problems with college. I shouldn't have picked a liberal arts school (that music theory class is really paying dividends right now).0

Oh totally. Unless you're talking about a game of jeopardy or trivial pursuit, or essay writing skills (when was the last time you were asked to write an essay in your career?), I didn't gain a single useful skill in university with a bachelor of arts (and that was even under a faculty of applied sciences... still useless!). I didn't learn anything useful until I took a 2 year non-credit professional certificate program after graduation. BUT i do have to admit that just having the piece of paper they gave me for all that tuition came in handy when job seeking. Of course, not once did a potential employer ask to see it or try to prove I even had it. Not one ever requested my transcripts. No employer of mine ever even thought of seeing proof of my degree (or my professional certificate for that matter). I literally could have skipped university and just lied on my resume and they would have been none the wiser. b-( I also could have just skated by with a C- GPA and no one ever would have known the difference. Maybe the problem, or part of it, is having them KNOW how it works. It's a step.
Maybe there's no need to commit to a career at that age (kind of fucked up, when you think about it), but general education, skills, internship or entry-level work? Even traveling, if affordable...seeing how others earn their living and how they also enjoy life - eschew things we might see as necessities.
