    So we have 165 countries on one side calling for a peaceful settlement of the conflict under the terms of U.N Resolution 242, and 6 countries - including Israel and the U.S - on the other; the U.S using it's power of automatic veto at the U.N Security council to block the settlement.

    And by the way, three of those countries which voted against the Resolution are destined to disappear under the sea in the near future as a result of global warming, so the U.S and Israel will have even fewer allies in their opposition to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

    The Israeli Broadcasting Authority has banned a radio advertisement from a human rights organisation which listed the names of some of the scores of children killed in Gaza since the conflict began 17 days ago.

    B'Tselem's appeal against the decision was rejected on Wednesday. It intends to petition Israel's supreme court on Sunday in an effort to get the ban overturned.

    The IBA said the ad's content was "politically controversial". The broadcast refers to child deaths in Gaza and reads out some of the victims' names.

    In its appeal, B'Tselem demanded to know what was controversial about the item. "Is it controversial that the children [aren't] alive? That they're children? That those are their names? These are facts that we wish to bring to the public's knowledge."

    In a statement, the human rights group said: "So far more than 600 people have been killed in bombings in Gaza, more than 150 of them children. But apart from a brief report on the number of fatalities, the Israeli media refrains from covering them." By Thursday morning, the death toll in Gaza had exceeded 700.

    B'Tselem went on: "IBA says broadcasting the children's names is politically controversial. But refusing to do so is in itself a far-reaching statement – it says the huge price being paid by civilians in Gaza, many of them children, must be censored."

    Aid agencies said on Wednesday that a child had been killed in Gaza on average every hour for the preceding two days, and more than 70,000 children had been forced to flee their homes. There has also been a spike in the number of premature births.

    "The shocking number of children being killed, injured, or displaced in Gaza demands an unequivocal international response to stop the bloodshed," Save the Children said. "Entire families are being wiped out in seconds as a result of the targeting of homes."

    Dr Yousif al Swaiti, director of al-Awda hospital, said: "We have witnessed many premature births as a result of the fear and psychological disorders caused by the military offensive. The number of cases of premature births per day has doubled, compared to the average daily rate before the escalation."

    Yeah, but this is why Hamas are refusing to accept the terms of the U.S-Israel-Egyptian ceasefire; because that ceasefire would simply return things to normal. I.e, the continuation of the blockade, routine extra-judicial assassinations, military incursions, missile attacks, e.t.c. And that's just Gaza. The West Bank will continue being attacked by the settlers and the military, and Palestinians will continue having their homes bulldozed and their land stolen.

    But according to some people on this messageboard, such as rr165892, and PhillyCrownofThorns, that's perfectly acceptable. I mean, they're all just Jihadi-Al Queda-Hezbollah, terrorists anyway.

    It's very interesting - I don't think this would have happened five years ago under the same circumstances. A very positive impact of our day and age is that this issue is so hugely visible for the first time, that it's becoming a moral obligation to stand for something. This has stirred something in a lot of people, badbrains. I just hope people can rise above "Israel=KKK" (and equivalent slander and attack on character from Israel towards Palestinian people, of which I'm sure there is plenty), and start working towards common goals (the ones that really matter like living without a constant fear of dying) instead of against each other. I don't envy the Palestinians for having to work towards that goal, it is a cruel and tragic reality that one party will have suffered in ways the other likely can't even imagine when all is said and done.

    I hear ya Ben and agree. Maybe some would've protested but not this many. It's getting real dangerously close to exploding and I have a feeling it is. I just don't see this getting better anytime soon. Not with images like the one byrnzie just posted. Imagine having to bury your child, the little innocent angel you brought into this world?     Israeli soldiers have shot and killed three Palestinian protesters and wounded about 100 on Thursday in confrontations with several thousand people demonstrating in the occupied West Bank against a 17-day-old Israeli offensive in Gaza, Palestinian medical officials said.

    AFP reported that one of those killed had been named as 25-year-old Mohammed al-Aaraj.

    The Israeli military confirmed troops had used "riot dispersal means" – a term used to cover weapons such as rubber bullets and tear gas – against protesters who threw rocks and firebombs at them and blocked a road with burning tyres.

    "There are thousands of rioters there," an army spokeswoman told AFP.

    "They are rolling burning tyres and throwing Molotov cocktails and fireworks at soldiers and border police," she added.

    She could not confirm or deny the use of live rounds.

    The protest erupted after allies of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement marched from the West Bank city of Ramallah to the edges of Jerusalem in protest against Israel's war against Hamas militants in Gaza, where the Palestinian death toll has topped 760.

    A doctor at Ramallah hospital said three people had died after being shot, including a man in his 20s who was injured in the head, while at least 100 other people were treated for various injuries after the protest. Israel Radio said the protest appeared to be the largest since the 2000-2005 Palestinian second intifada, or uprising.

    Israeli troops have killed two other Palestinians this week in smaller confrontations in the West Bank, territory Israel now occupies after capturing it along with Gaza in the 1967 "six-day war".

    Protests were also reported in Jerusalem, where police confronted Palestinian protesters in and near the old walled city, including outside a flashpoint holy site revered by Muslims and Jews.

    Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said several officers were injured by rocks thrown at them in Jerusalem and that about 20 protesters were arrested.
