  • Saw these at a record fair last week in the Netherlands (German dealers)... about 30-35 euro. They are bootlegs and the artwork is not as sharp as the originals and the colors are a bit murky... clearly copies. Don't pay that much money for these!

I've bought some bootlegs but I would never pay hundreds of dollars for them. I bought a bootleg copy of solider field for $50 because the origianal is hard and expensive to find. I've got some bootlegs of unofficial stuff like live soundboard shows from the 90s. Under 50 bucks seems ok, over 50 seems to much for a boot.

Pearl Jam and the 10c should be looking at these auctions with $ signs in their eyes. If people are willing to pay this money for bootlegs of this album, imagine how well it would do properly (officially) re-issued. CHA-CHING!

They look fucking amazing. Even if the quality sucks it'd be awesome to hang them on the wall.

    Wind this thing up.

  • Agreed but not at that price for bootlegs.

    They started that high.

There was another auction a couple of days ago, when these first popped up in the threads here. That auction started low, and the OP of the other thread said they got theirs for 30 bucks. Then that other auction sold for 164 dollars. And then the next day, the one for 300 BIN popped up. This is more than what a sealed original pressing is offered for over there right now. People are talking about seeing them at the record fair for "cheap" and only two days later, the ebay price has risen enormously. That was what I meant. It fucking sucks. I know that the ebay asking price is not always what people are willing to pay. But I do think it is remarkable and easy to see that people see the financial opportunities with stuff like that and rabid fans. Hopefully, this seller will sit on his copy till they turn black.
I am also hesitant with bootlegs, but this one looked so sharp and I am far away from being able to afford Avocado on vinyl at this time, so I would have considered getting it for a reasonable price. A price that doesn't hurt if it just looks pretty and sounds like shit.

This sucks. I don't understand why the band who is so supportive of vinyl records does not do anything to ease this situation.

Seems pricey, especially considering the going rate for a legit copy.

As far as sound quality, it's a slippery slope, but if it's sourced from the cd and pressed good, it could be a nice copy to have, if the price wasn't so out of hand.

If it was a special official "secret" blue variant, I could see how the price rose. But like this... This is just a plain ripoff. Hopefully, nobody bites.

    A few comments on that:

    1) If it's sourced from the cd, then what's the point? This is a major point of contention with vinyl collectors. Vinyl it supposed to be a superior format to CD. If the vinyl is sourced from a CD master then it defeats the purpose?

    2) Is it possible they sourced it from the authentic vinyl? From what I understand it isn't overly hard to duplicate a record? I have no idea how it all works, but how hard is it for bootleggers to spend several hundred dollars to get a sealed mint copy on ebay, then turn around and use it as the master and clone new copies from it? If the bootlegger did it right you would think you could have some pretty sweet quality bootlegs out there.

Well, I'm pretty sure all PJ albums before Lightning Bolt are sourced the same master whether vinyl or cd. Another generation down the line, would probably cause some degredation in the sound quality, but it wouldn't be the worst sounding vinyl out there. I'm not sure sound quality is a big concern for most newer collectors.. I think vinyl has gotten bigger b/c it's became hip, more than for a sound quality issue, IMO.

Not sure how bootlegs are generally done, or even if there is a general rule, but I've heard of some pretty decent bootleg vinyl. I have a Radiohead live bootleg that despite some qc issue sounds pretty good.

So did anyone report this sale to ebay? This sale of an illegal counterfeit described as an official 10C release? Can't find it now - must be over. Otherwise I would report it. Was just wondering because there were "someone should report this" comments, yet no one reported. Why not? It's easy to do.

I had these on my watch list, was going to report them today. However the listing was deleted before I could do so. I guess that more people than just me contacted him and he decided to remove it before things got official. Well done folks!
  • The white yield is back and with a real sales pitch. I want more vinyl too but wow.
