Finally got my vinyl copy of "Psychedelic Pill". Those of you who know me know I'm a loooooong time Neil Young and NY/Crazy Horse fan- clear back to the days of Buffalo Springfield. When it first came out, I heard a few snippets of songs from Psychedelic Pill on my computer and turned them of rather quickly. I knew I was not hearing the record properly (5% as Neil would say) and saved up and waited until I found a somewhat affordable copy, new, and I'm here to say- it was worth every penny and the long wait. I played the record and my wife heard me cry, "The Horse is Back! Long live The Horse!"

    What an album!!!

Yes, goldrush- very much worth waiting for! I had read a few mediocre reviews and was a bit hesitant, wondering if The Horse should have stayed out to pasture. Not so! This is a great album that far exceeded any expectations I might have had. That first listen last night was mesmerizing. One very happy fan here!

I need this Record Store Day release.

    http://ultimateclassicrock.com/neil-young-time-fades-away-vinyl/

Neil Young’s Long-Lost ‘Time Fades Away’ Finally Getting Re-Released

After considerable delay, ‘Time Fades Away,’ Neil Young‘s live album from 1973, will finally be re-released. The record has been kept out-of-print for years by Young, who called it “a total joke” and “the worst record I ever made” in 1987.

However, true to Young’s form, it seems ‘Time Fades Away’ will not be available on CD, mp3 or even his proprietary Pono format. The record will only be available on vinyl as part of Record Store Day on April 19. Further complicating the matter is that it will be sold as part of a box set including ‘On the Beach,’ ‘Tonight’s the Night’ and ‘Zuma.’ Production of the 180-gram vinyl set will be limited to 3,500 copies.

The bulk of ‘Time Fades Away’ — ‘Love in Mind’ dates from 1971 — was recorded while Young was on a massive tour with the Stray Gators in support of his blockbuster hit, ‘Harvest.’ But he included no songs from the record. In the liner notes for the ‘Decade’ compilation, he wrote, “Money hassles among everyone concerned ruined this tour and record for me but I released it anyway so you folks could see what could happen if you lose it for a while. I was becoming more interested in an audio verite approach than satisfying the public demands for a repetition of “Harvest.’”

Young had planned to release ‘Time Fades Away’ on CD in 1995, but pulled it at the last minute, even after test pressings were made. For years, die-hard fans have long-clamored for it, even officially petitioning the U.S. government to force Young to put it out on compact disc. The petition has gained more than 16,300 signatures since 2005.

I actually like that quirky record very much. It's one of his most personal. I bought it new as a cut out many years ago for something like $3.98. It's a weird hodge-podge of songs and true, there are a few that don't work so well but some of my favorite NY ballads are on this record- "Journey Through the Past", "Love in Mind", "The Bridge". These songs are very personal and my guess is that perhaps Young dismissed this record because having those songs out there makes him feel too exposed. Journey and Bridge are some of my favorite NY ballads to sing and play, especially late at night when feeling a bit down or tired. I remember one time falling asleep in the middle of playing "The Bridge".

Great find! I am so SO lucky* to have bought this on vinyl when it came out. This record really sounds great on the original analog vinyl!

Edit: maybe "luck" is the wrong word. I'm a long time NY fan and when it came out and I saw it at a local record shop for $7.99 it was an easy decision to buy it.

So the RSD box was delayed.

God. Its so maddening being a fan of his. I get what he is trying to do with Pono, but he can't multitask and release some tunes too?

I would assume at this point, the sets have to be pressed or are about to be if they had the announcement done. We are a month away from RSD. I'm not even thinking the ox will be out in NOv. I'm just assuming its cancelled until Archives 2. Which won't be any time soon.

Damn, really? I just asked my local record store person if he can order and hold me a copy of it on RSD. I'm kind of disappointed. Is he delaying it so he can release his new album or like you said, include it until Archives 2? Looks like I'll have to go back there tomorrow and find a couple other things to have him order. I was really looking forward to owning those albums on vinyl.

I think its delayed because hes pushing pono and probably hasn't had the time to listen to them to make sure it meets his standards.

Or this is a classic NY troll job where he says hes gonna do something then pulls it back at the last minute to disappear for several years.
