Chicago Cubs baseball!!!

Sveum is gone. Not surprised. And I feel the way about his firing as his hiring...which is meh. I feel a little bad for him because it is not all his fault...he didn't have much to work with, but I don't think he was right for that job. So, hopefully he can find something that's a better fit for him and maybe we can just hire the entire Cardinals team from ball boy to office staff and finally have a good team. :fp:

i love the packers.

I agree that Sveum had nothing to work with but he did NOTHING to help the youngsters develop. Rizzo and Castro both seemed to regress this season.

Sveum was just a placeholder until they landed a manager with cred who will coach the Cubs, fail then retire.

I hear Girardi is a top candidate. Always liked Joe, but what could he.., or what could the BEST manager in baseball history....do with this shitty team? :fp:

I do think they need a guy who can bust some ass (or bench some ass) like Joe, but I still wish they went with Ryno. :x :fp:

You can't start a rebuild with a new mgr and only let him manage 2 years, that's not enough time. I think we are actually taking a step back by hiring a new mgr and prolonging the rebuild. This can't be on sveum as he was given a shitty team. Wish Rizzo wouldn't have taken a step back, but Castro is just a piece of shit who we shouldn't have signed to a long term deal in the first place. Typical Cubs. Girardi? He only won one title with all that money and talent in NY. He also is the only yankee mgr to miss the playoffs twice in the past 19 years. We should have just hired Sandberg when we had the chance.

So lets look at Mr. Epstein over the last 2 years.

196 losses? Or is it 197?
He gave Edwin Jackson a Gazillion dollar contract? Jackson lost 18 games?
Castro and his .245 avg. got a long term deal?
Rizzo and his .230 avg. got a long term deal?

And it was 2 years ago when all the Cub fans were giving Mr. Epstein a standing ovation.

And I don't want to hear a fucking thing about the farm system.
I will believe that bullshit, when those players actually make it to the Big Leagues, and produce.

So lets look at The Cubs situation.

They have a shortstop and a 1st baseman locked into long term deals....Neither hit over .245 this year.
They have a pitcher locked into a long term deal, who lost 18 games this year.
They need a 3rd baseman
A second baseman who can hit his weight.
A left fielder
A center fielder
A right fielder.
4 starting pitchers (Samargarine is a bust out)
2-3 middle relievers.
And a closer.

But have no fear.
Girardi is our new savior!

I couldn't agree with you more. But I do think Rizzo and Castro will be all perennial all stars. And Junior Lake could be good. But yea, the team is a mess.

Castro IMO won't be an all star until he loses his fn attitude. He should also be playing second, not short. Terrible glove, inconsistent arm, bad decision maker in the field. I would be more ok with a SS that hit .240 if he was a great fielder.
Rizzo could be ok but he needs to hit to all fields more consistently and focus on putting the ball in play more than swinging for the fence.

Mr. Theo canned Mr. Sveum thinking he was going to land Girardi.
And that was never even close to happening.
Girardi had NO intentions whatsoever of coming to manage the mess we have here in Chicago.

i did, it made me remember why i stopped rooting for the cubs. life is full of tragedy and sports is a good distraction. teams' success ebbs and flows. they usual have their ups and downs but with the poor cubs, it's only downs. that's why i couldn't root for them after 03, i learned my lesson. but bless you for sticking with them

This sucks. WGN is why they have a national fan base. Sadly it's about money, not tradition and trying to keep your national fan base. Those of us across the country that are already fans will stay fans, but the next generation of fans won't be cubs fans unless they live around Chicago, just sad.
